Beatrice (Bea) - 6 year old female

Beatrice finds her forever home - Oct 27

Bea's new mom and dad came to pick her up tonight. She will be an only dog with feline siblings (Beans and Weiner) living in the West end of Toronto. Bea will now be known as Beatrice and will be the pug in residence with her artist mom. She will soon be gracing Kensington Market where her mom has a studio.

David and Lisa are thrilled with their new addition and will be sure to keep us up on her antics. Perhaps Miss Beatrice will be a "muse" for her mom, Lisa.

Bouncing, Beautiful Bea is ready

Bea is a sweetheart that just wants a warm lap to curl up on and has to be touching someone all the time. She is very gentle but at the same time is a girl that knows what she wants. Bea sees a spot that she wants and it doesn't matter if it's already occupied, she'll squeeze in.

Bea was an only dog before coming into foster care so she really doesn't understand the concept of sharing toys. What's hers is hers and what's someone elses is also hers. She takes it as aggression when one of the others attempts to play with her and will charge at them. She loves to play by herself and will gladly run and get a toy you throw for her. She has no food aggression, just with toys.

Bea needs a home that is able to make sure she gets out for regular potty breaks. Due to the major urinary infection she had, she can't be expected to hold it for 8 hours. She is quite capable of holding it and will. It's very important that she be made to go out.

She's not an energetic pug so if someone is looking for a wild one that will run around and play it's not Bea. She likes her walks, but it's on her terms and at her speed.

Foster Update, Oct 2

Bea will be going in on Monday, October 8 for her spay and dental. She will be the only patient that day so, no doubt, she'll get all extra attention from the staff. Send good thoughts to this golden girl.

Foster Update, Sept 29

Well, the infections are all gone and she is one playful, happy pug. One moment she is stealing all the toys then the next moment she is cuddled up with Hank. She is now up to date on her vaccinations and is booked for October 9th to have her spaying and the removal of the retained baby teeth.

After that will be recuperation time and then this spunkly little gal will be ready for you. Check back after the 9th to see how things went.

Foster Update, Sept 4

On August 23rd the results of Bea's urine and blood tests came back. Her foster mom reported:

"Bea's urine came back with high P.H. and they suspected either bladder stones or quite possibly a mass in the bladder. She went in on August 18th to have an xray of the bladder done. Thank goodness it was clear of anything but they are still uncertain as to what is causing her P.H. to continue to stay so high.

She got 2 more weeks of the Zaniquin and hopefully this will do the job. Dr. Bissonette said to bring her back in 2 weeks and if she shows improvement he will start her vaccines and then we can get her spayed and the baby teeth removed.

She contines to be a real sweetheart and has taken a real liking to Ringo. He was the first thing she went to when I brought her home from the vet and proceeded to lick him all over. He's also the only one she shows any interest in and the only one that is worthy of having his ears cleaned by her."

After 2 weeks, Bea was very much improved in her health so she went in on September 4th for her vaccinations. Next will be her spay, microchip and dental. Then she'll be all set to find that special someone.

Foster Update, July 11th

She has a strain of e-coli that is resiliant to Clavamox so she is going on a new medication. She will be on this for a minimum of 4 weeks and I will take a new urine sample in in 2 weeks time to see how her progress is on the new medication.

On a happy note, she finally took an interest in toys today so she must be feeling at least a bit better than she was. She sleeps in the "big" bed and enjoys snuggling close

Foster Update, July 4th

Bea went to the vet yesterday for a check up. I noticed she'd squat and urinate every time she went out, wasn't sure if it was behavioural since she only went out before to do her business and thought maybe, just maybe she thought that was what was expected of her. So I grabbed a urine sample to get it checked just in case. It looked like what can only be described as swamp water, not your normal yellow but green.

She has white blood cells, rods, cocci and struvites and that's just what showed up on site. They are sending it out for a culture so we should know more in a few days. Also she has worms so we got Drontal, she gets one dose now and another in 6 weeks and also retained baby teeth that need to come out. Shots aren't up to date but that's the least of our worries for now. We'll get the teeth taken care of when she gets spayed. So now we wait for Senior Wellness blood results and hope there's no liver or kidney problems and for the culture results to come back to see exactly what we're dealing with. I have 2 weeks of Clavamox but depending on what comes back that may change.

On a positive note heartworm results were negative which was a big relief since she hadn't been vetted since she was a year old.

Other than that she's sweet as pie and not one accident in the house despite all that's going on with her.

Introduction - July 1st

Bea is an owner surrender pug. She is intact but her last heat cycle was in may, much to the relief of her foster mom. Her health is unknown at this point as there were no vet records that came with the surrender. The owner was given the pug 3 months ago and did not get any records.

So Bea will start a new life, and a complete vet checkup. The owner did report that Beatrice got along very well with her child.

We will have more details and photos once she gets settled
