Ayla - 4 year old female |
|
Ayla is adopted - Oct 15 What can I say about Ayla? She is truly amazing, an absolutely wonderful dog, and a total joy to have as a part of our family. Ayla joined us in the middle of October and has fit in like she has been with us all her life. She has settled in nicely and has us all trained on what she needs; doing the happy dance when she would like a treat, (which unfortunately for her are in a bit short supply as we continue to work on her weight;) dragging her oven mitt around when she wants to play tug and she will even pick up her harness and bring it to me if she wants to go for another walk. Ayla is the biggest snuggler and will quickly curl up with however is available for a good cuddle. She has the snoring capability of a team of men, which is pretty funny given her tiny size. She has made many new friends, people and dogs alike and is quite the little star everywhere she goes, always being complimented on how cute she is and well behaved. She is smart, funny and truly adorable, and the joy she has brought into our lives is beyond words. It is hard to remember how we ever lived without her. Thank you Pugalug for bringing Ayla into our lives, she has truly touched us in a very special way and we look forward to many years of happy memories with her. Linda, Grandma Helen & Ayla |
Adopter Requirements Ayla has lost 2.65lbs of her targeted 6lbs since she has been with us, which has only been 3 weeks. (Her target weight loss is ¾’s of a pound a week.) She is well on her way to a great little figure. Her body conditioning score has improved, and she needs to be placed in a home where the family is committed to maintaining her weight lose through a portion controlled balanced diet and a daily exercise routine. Ayla does not really play when out in the yard, her typical behaviour is to sit down, so her new family must be committed to daily walks, which she truly loves. Because of her very tiny legs Ayla would do best with 2-3 short walks a day versus 1 longer walk, so her new home must have the time and commitment to this. Ayla loves all other dogs, cats, kids, seniors but also enjoys her time as top dog so she would be a suitable placement to most homes with or without another canine companion. As with most pugs, she loves to be with her people, so a home where she would have limited alone time would be ideal. Ayla has been pretty much everywhere with us and has proven she can adapt to pretty much any situation. Ayla is very quiet, we have yet to hear her bark; she could easily live in a condo or apartment, with a regular exercise routine. Her housetraining issues are totally resolved and we have not had any accidents past her first day with us. Ayla is an extremely relaxed and gentle girl she will be a great addition to someone’s family. |
Foster Update - October 2 Ayla went to visit the vet today and was given a clean bill of health. Her weight is down to 19.5lbs, so she might be losing a bit too fast, but she is well on her way to getting her fantastic figure back!Ayla has joined us on a trip to the cottage, visited a friend at a nursing home and travelled with me to the office on many occasions. She has met cats, dogs, and people of all ages and simply loves everyone. She has now totally got the hang of going outside to do her business and there haven’t been any more accidents. Her personality has really begun to shine, and she is quite the little ham, playing with toys and chasing the ball around. Oddly enough her favourite toy seems to be an oven-mitt that she picked up off the floor when I dropped it. She drags it around everywhere, and it was so cute I couldn’t take it away from her. As you can see from the picture she is a very tiny little girl, (she is on the right and my pug Olly is on the left.) We have yet to hear her bark; so far she is the quietest little dog we have ever fostered. She seems to have a handle on all the basic commands, sit, stay, come and she walks well on her leash. When we were packing for the cottage she got right in the suitcase just to make sure she was going too. She is a smart little cookie and a little love sponge! |

Introduction, Sept. 23 Ayla arrived on the weekend, full of kisses and wiggles. She hoped in the car and travelled very well along the drive home. She had a bath, which she was not thrilled about, but she now looks likes a shiny little princess. Ayla gets along great with my Boxer and my Pug and has fit right in, charming all my neighbours and the two other pugs on the street.Ayla had been using puppy pads so we are working on only doing our business outside, so far only 1 accident. She is crate trained, but is also fine to be left out when home alone. She uses the crate as her safe spot and heads in there when she has had enough of my dogs. She likes to be with you all the time and follows you everywhere. She came to work with me yesterday and everyone thought she was fantastic. She got along with the other dogs and was great with the cats. Ayla is a very tiny pug, but currently has a weight problem, weighing in at 21.4lbs, with a target weight of about 14-15lbs. We have changed up her food and are sticking to some strict portion control. So far we are trying for 4 short walks a day, but she gets tired pretty quickly. It is actually quite amazing those little legs can carry all that weight! Stay tuned for more information on this little love bug, she can’t wait to share her new slimmer figure with you! |
