Pugalug Pug Rescue |
Derek, Lesley and Amelia (daughter) with Beulah (black pug) and Bailey |
Bailey - adopted August 28, 2006 Derek, Lesley and Amelia got to know Bailey at a local park where a lot of pug owners go for walks at night. They have watched him for many weeks, seeing the changes in him and watching his confidence grow. They thought long and hard about adding a second pug to their home and decided that Bailey was the pug for them. Bailey transitioned into their home without a backwards glance and has fit in beautifully. They are aware that Bailey has had some fear and anxiety issues, but so far has not displayed them in his new home. I think that Bailey has found the perfect forever home and will blossom with his new family. |

Bailey looking for a loving home This is a lovely boy, --playful, engaging, a bit dominant as well. Not great with cats and should go to a home with either a cat that is REALLY used to dogs and won't react or a home without cats. Needs an experienced dog owner who knows positive training techniques and is willing to continue to work on his fear issues. Likely he will always have issues with his feet and the vet's office. He is a dominant wannabe--has some alpha behaviour, but uses it in a "bullying" way--tries to nip my big dogs back feet--but only when she is at a disadvantage and can't retaliate. He is VERY fearful of most men and will alarm bark until he gets used to them. Chases bikes, joggers and running children so must be watched if off leash as this can freak people out. Has resource guarding issues but can trade for other objects, but is not consistent with this.. Will need to continue to work on this. Needs patience and gentle handling. Health status is good. |
Bailey - Foster Update, July 12th We are making slow progress with his fear of objects. Instead of biting me while trying to clean his nose folds, he has decided to play with the kleenex --and it was clearly playing as opposed to fear biting. Still didn't get the G-D nose fold cleaned, but at least he had fun instead of being afraid. Vet work all came back positive--blood work good, fecal negative. Some of his blood values were slightly off--but my vet thinks it is a stress reaction. |
Bailey - Foster Update, June 22nd Bailey still has some fear aggression, but it is much improved. His foster mother is working on his fears of objects. He will allow you to handle him with no problem until you have something in your hand, then he becomes frightened. Even something as small as a kleenex frightens him. He had a difficult time with his vet visit as a result. We are waiting to hear from his old vet to see if fear aggression with the vet is new behaviour or an old issue. Bailey is a very loving guy who has been under socialized and probably been the king pin of his former home. He will need a patient home that has the skills to continue working with his fears. He is NOT an outright aggressive dog, he has specific fears that need to be addressed patiently and consistently and with kindness. He loves to snuggle with his foster mom and sometimes, with the other pugs. He is much more oriented to people than to dogs, but this may change with more socialization and exposure. |
Bailey - Introduction June 8th Bailey is a lovely 5 or 6 year old neutered fawn male. His owner had to go into a nursing home and the family member that took over Bailey's care found that he was not good with their small children or their cat. He is friendly with other dogs, good with older children and so far, has been good with the foster mother's two cats. He is somewhat fearful in his new surroundings, but is adjusting. He likes to be with someone as much as possible. His house training is pretty good. He will ask to go out, but if left alone will make a mess in the house. This may resolve as he becomes more comfortable. He is very sweet and loving and a very handsome guy!! |
