Banjo arrived at our home last Tuesday to a joyous reception from our other two pugs (Bobo and Shadow), and the trio have now become the best of friends.

My wife MC and I are thrilled and honoured to have been given the opportunity to provide little Banjo with his forever home. He truly is a joyous little fellow with a deep and abiding zest for life. Although a bit skittish and shy when he first came into our home, he has since established himself as one of the pack and loves to play and run with the other two guys. He is also a pug that demands a huge amount of lap time and is the quintessential "velcro dog" - something that both my wife and I really appreciate. "Banjo on my knee" indeed!

The little booger is without a doubt the most food motivated puggie we have ever met. When food is served up, he dances around excitedly while serenading us with a joyous song composed of yelps, squeals, squeaks, and yodels - it is truly a sight to hear and behold - and apart from its entertainment value - which is substantial - his incredible interest in food has proved to be a real boon in terms of his training. With a few liver bribes along the way, he has already learned to sit, and stay. Moreover, Banjo is an impeccable gentleman on the leash. Right from the beginning I have been able to walk all three pugs together without trouble - and boy oh boy does he love his walks. In fact, he has become a neighbourhood celebrity over night - especially with the younger kids that live around us.

We just love the little guy.

Banjo is the sweetest and most handsome pug anyone has ever heard of. Sure, his foster home is biased, however, you should see the attention he gets where ever he goes! One must be ready for frequent stops when out and about due to the cuteness that is Banjo.

While there has been great improvement, Banjo still shows some shyness and timidity upon first meeting new people and dogs. His guardian will need to be aware and attentive to ensuring gentle introductions for all the new friends the little guy is certain to make.

It's an entirely different story at home. As Banjo has settled in at his foster home, he has proven himself to be a real go-getter. Zooming, chasing, jumping, tugging... If he could, surely he would bounce right off the walls. All kind of clever noises included. A very playful puppy indeed. For this reason, Banjo may be too much for very small children. The same can be said for other dogs that are not ready for a rock 'em, sock 'em playtime pug champion. Banjo is very insistent.

A few things with the puppy factor in mind. Banjo will need continued work in the potty training department. Having said that, he has been accident free since sticking to a schedule for going out. In addition, many things may seem like a toy to the little guy. He's pretty good about choosing things out of the toy-box indoors, with the exception being a shoe here and there. When out for his walkies, Banjo will joyfully pick up, carry and toss around just about any twig, leaf, branch, rock or pebble he comes across. We've been keeping an eye out for the smaller things he picks up that they don't become snacks for swallowing.

Banjo is doing just great. His confidence grows every day. He attended the Polliwog Pugalug where he was initally overwhelmed and spent time beneath a chair or two or upon a friendly lap. Once the crowd thinned, Banjo showed himself to be a bit more brave. He took a turn in the pool where he swam his little legs out to get to the delicious treats on offer.

Banjo is quite comfortable by now at his foster home. He loves racing, wrestling and giving chase with the resident frenchies and will play a little bit with the big dogs too. Chowtime is a thrilling event; Banjo yodels and goes into full on circus-act mode for meals and treats.

While it is still uncertain whether or not he gets it as far as the potty training goes, as long as he is on a schedule for being taken outside for his business we have not been finding accidents indoors (knock wood, please).

He is a happy dog and does he ever enjoy his walkies. Sometimes nervous and shy for meeting new people and dogs, however, curiosity, delight and enthusiasm are very quickly replacing the little rascal's insecurity.

Banjo's neuter surgery is scheduled this week. Assuming all goes well, it won't be long at all before this cute boy starts looking for a home to call his own. He's a good pug!

Banjo is a 2 year old cutie patootie who landed at the shelter after having been found as a stray. He is 15 pounds of pug with lots of love and many licks to give. We're working on his confidence as well as his potty training; both of which are coming right along. Banjo has had his wellness exam and will go back in a couple of weeks for his neuter surgery. In addition, both back paws have double dew claws which will be removed at the same time. There was no end to the oh-ing and ah-ing at the Vet. Clinic over this little guy.

No doubt, the queue will be long when it's time for Banjo to start receiving applications. Cutie alert!
