Buddie - 3.5 year old male |
|
Buddie has gone to the rainbow bridge |
Adopted - Feb 4, 2009 Alison, the kind and gentle foster mom who has worked so hard to ease Buddie into a new life, has decided to adopt him. Her understanding of his needs and fears has greatly helped him to transition to a more comfortable life. |
Buddie needs a home that will help him learn that he doesn't have to be afraid. Buddie, as a blind dog, has become fearful, food aggressive and has an extreme startle response when awoken or surprised. When this happens, he becomes defensive and will lunge and snap until calmed down. Buddie has learned that life isn't predictable or safe and so remains hyper vigilant. He is VERY needy and wants to be with you all the time. In spite of his defensiveness, he is a warm and loving soul who needs to be shown that the world IS safe for a blind dog. This little man needs an owner who is willing to work with him and will give him the time, patience and attention that he needs to adjust. His foster mother has worked with him quite a bit and has developed a routine around feeding that minimizes his food aggression. Food aggression, extreme startle responses and resource guarding are NOT uncommon in blind dogs--particularly if they haven't had an owner who knows how to create a secure and safe environment. His blindness does not interfere in his daily living at all--he loves walks, and car rides and snuggling with you. But he is easily frightened by sudden noises and smells and needs an owner who will be patient with him. This little man is waiting to blossom. He just needs the right gardener. |
Introduction - August 10 Buddie is blind in both eyes. He was born blind in one eye and lost sight in the other before he was 1 year old. However, he has developed a big affection for people and has adjusted to his lack of vision very well. He is in good heatlh, neutered and up to date on his shots. He is reportedly food agressive and the owner's 14 month old daughter is not of the age where she can live with a dog who has this problem. So they have had to surrender him to our care. |
