360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
Chance - 8.5 year old male

Chance is settlin' in

Chance is fitting in so well. Like he's always been here! Joe has transformed into a pug snuggler. Pugger has stopped peeing on him, thank god, but he has taken to constant tail wagging to steal the show. They all run to the pug room (sun porch off laundry room) in the morning now and line up for cookies, then we put up a baby gate and chance and pugger nap while we are out doing chores. It is very cute!

He has the sweetest quirks, he plays sock with lindsay in the mornings...yup its a sock that he plays with. He likes to go back to bed while I shower. And of course, he is joe's new cuddle partner at bedtime. He now goes wherever pugger goes. They are like mismatched bookends! He is doing really well with abbey and has even dared to steal her big bone a time or two.

He doesn't go on a leash unless we go for walks, which we're trying to do lots of to get some weight off pugger. Chance definitely loves his food...morning yogurt most of all. He dances till he gets it. Thanks again for bringing him to us...we are blessed to have these crazy boys to keep life fun.

Goin' up the country - May 2

Chance has gone to his furever home in Orangeville. He has a pug fur brother, Mr. Tumnus, a German shepherd sister, Abby. His new mom, Andrea, will send us an update soon. He will be living on a working alpaca farm and loved by mom, dad and two human siblings.

Chance is an extremely people bonded dog and is unhappy when not with his humans. He is learning that he can be away from them and the world won't end, but he will bark and carry on. We have been working on this with him and he is better, but an adopter will have to continue this work with him.

He is not reliable in his house training when left unsupervised. This may change with time, patience and consistency. He is not allowed full access to my house when I am not with him and is gated into the kitchen with my other pugs when I am gone for easy clean up when there is an accident.

He has very good manners generally, walks very well on leash, travels well and LOVES to be out and about and meeting new people. He could care less about other dogs. He is very good with children, but wouldn't do well in a rambunctious house where he could be overwhelmed. He is good with my cats as well.

He is quite happy to just be with you. He doesn't need to be on you, but wants to know where you are and will settle happily into a dog bed in whatever room you are in. He does not have accidents when he is with his human, but only when left alone.

He can be a picky eater so a new owner should expect some initial food refusal.

Foster Update - March 7

Chance continues to do well. He has been fully vetted and is now healthy in all respects. His second urinalysis came back clean so he's off meds and thriving.

He is very polite man. Walks very well on leash, has pretty good recall and knows to sit for treats. He gets along well with all the resident animals. In fact, he completely ignores them.

He is an energetic guy for his age and loves to go for walks or go to the off leash park. He shows no fear or anxiety about other dogs, regardless of size, but will scurry away if big rambunctious dogs start frolicking around him.

We continue to work on his house training, but he may well be a life long marker. His house training is excellent as long as he is with you, but if left, he will excrete in the house. Currently, he is in a belly band when he is not in my sight and I try to make sure that he has pooped before leaving him unsupervised. He is not allowed free access to the house if unsupervised, but is gated off with the other pugs in an area where clean up is easy if there is an accident.

He still tends to kick up a fuss if gated away from humans, but he is getting better about this. He isn't destructive at all, but he will scream his head off in indignation. He is quite a picky eater which is unusual in a pug, but once he finds a food he likes he eats well.

He is very charming, loves all people and except for the house training and barking, is a very easy fellow.

Foster Update - Feb 23

Chance had a vet appt today as I was seeing indications that he might have a UTI. Sure enough, he does have a pretty severe one. He is on clavamox for a week then we will re-test his urine. If the antibiotics haven't cleared up the infection, then we will look to see if he has stones.

We did a full work up on him since he is an older boy and we want to make sure nothing else is lurking under the surface besides the urinary tract infection. He was great at the vets and behaved like a pug--warmly greeting everyone with kisses and wiggles.

Chance is a true velcro pug and wants to be with you all the time--and I mean ALL the time. He will bark when not with his person. It's not true separation anxiety as much as just not being happy without you. His bark is quite high pitched and it certainly gets your attention. Once he is with you, however, he is content to find a comfy spot to sleep and lie down.

He loves to go for walks and has enjoyed the off leash park when we've been there. He is good about going outside and does do his business while out there, but has had an accident or two while here. Some of that may clear up with the infection. Some of it, I think, is anxiety.

He is eating well, but is a bit of a picky eater and so far will only eat the treats he came with--rejecting my treats as beneath him. He is having no problems with either my cats or my dogs and generally ignores them. His focus is me.

Introduction Feb 21

Chance is an 8.5 year old fawn boy who is an owner surrender. His owner had to go into a retirement community and could no longer care for him. He is in good shape and a nice weight. He is reported to be a bit hit and miss in the house training department, but has been fine so far. He has met all the resident dogs and cats, been to the park and has been a perfect gentleman in all ways. He adjusted fairly easily to his transition, with only a short bit of staring out the window when he was left with me. His energy is very good and he's a happy guy.
