Coco's found a loving home We will have a picture in a couple of daysCoCo has been adopted by the McMillan family in Burlington. She will be an only dog with frequent visits from Bowzer (the son's pug) and the daughter's chihuahua. She was very excited to see her new dad when he came to pick her up and left happily with him with only a few anxious glances back at me. She will be catered to and loved very much. This is a kind and gentle family that has had dogs for years, although this is the first pug for the senior McMillan's. |
Requirements CoCo has not been well socialized and as a result, she is easily frightened by new people and new places. She would not do well in a home where there is a lot of activity, coming and going, general noisiness. She is not aggressive, but she will bark, back up with her hackles raised at new people, new situations and new dogs. She is quickly overwhelmed and needs time, patience and gentleness. Any adopter of CoCo MUST be tolerant of her need for further reinforcement with house training. She was originally surrendered for house training issues and failed in her first foster home around house training. she has done very well with me, but I fully expect that she will regress initially upon adoption. She is VERY bright and learns quickly. She knows 'sit', 'down', 'out' and 'no bark' (although the 'no bark' is a work in progress). she has very good recall and walks well on leash, but finds walks somewhat overwhelming and she will bark and be afraid of new people and dogs met while walking. She has not peed or pooped on a leash walk or in the park. ONLY uses the yard. this may change but until it does, she needs a lot of access to a safely fenced, mostly grass backyard. Doesn't do well in a landscaped environment. Currently only poops on concrete/flagstones. Takes a long time to find the "perfect" spot. She cannot tolerate any rough handling, yelling, discipline or dominance training. She is a gentle soul with lots of puppy play in her and she will need to be given time and encouragement to fully blossom. She is very healthy and loves a good game of fetch and tug. She will play with other dogs on occasion, but is very selective about who as most dog play is overwhelming to her. I cannot emphasize enough her need for gentleness, patience and praise. |

Foster Update, September 1 CoCo is a lovely and active girl, but clearly has not been well socialized. She is easily frightened by new people and new situations. She is quickly overwhelmed by lots of activity in the home so will need a home that isn't noisy or too busy. She is a barker, especially when afraid, and would not do well in an apartment, condo or other home where noise might be an issue. She does have some confusion about house training, but it's not clear yet whether that is anxiety based or a lack of training. She is quite frightened in our local fenced off leash park and will need a home that can work with her in building her confidence. As a result, a fully fenced backyard will likely be a requirement for her. She plays nicely with her shih tzu foster brother, but didn't do well with another busy male pug her age. She is completely healthy and will be ready to go shortly, but will need a home that can help her along with both her confidence and her house training. |

Introduction August 26 CoCo is a delightful 14 month old little fawn girl. She is spayed, UTD on vaccines and quite a busy little bee. Nothing out of the normal for her age, however. She has met all the resident dogs and cats and has been fine with them all. She knows sit, is gentle taking a treat and LOVES to play fetch. She was an owner surrender for house training issues so we will see how that goes. So far, no accidents. |
