Daisy's New Family - Oct 8

Daisy has joined the family of Jenn, Casey, Isabella and Victoria. She will have a black pug fur sister, named Lola, who is 1 1/2 yrs. old. There is an old kitty, named Kaboodle and a very old gerbil, named Cody.

Daisy and Lola had a great time, running around their large yard and seem to be very well matched! Her new mommy works at a veterinary hospital. The family had a pug that lived to be 16 yrs. old, so they have lots of pug experience.

The family have a trailer that they will take the pugs to. Lola enjoys swimming and Daisy will get to do that too. This little girl will have a wonderful life and be very well loved.

This little Flower is ready for adoption - Sept 21

Adoption Fee - $550

Daisy is almost ready to go. She should have a couple more physio sessions and that will be it! Her muscle strength is still not totally recovered and she should be given lots of exercise by her new owners. Her surgeon said she should lead a pretty normal life, but there is a very slight chance that she could require further surgery. This would happen, if bone started to grow at the surgery site.

Daisy is an active little girl, who loves to chase a ball and play tug. She gets along really well with other dogs and is fine with cats. She would be happy to have an older child to cuddle with. The little stinker still likes to chew, especially on shoes. She is getting better and should grow out of it.

Daisy has a wonderful endearing quality and we have grown to love her. Her zest for life, is overflowing. My only concern is that she should not be subjected to a really exhuberant dog. She is very small and still gets pushed over very easily. If you have an application on file, then e-mail your interest in Daisy rescue@pugalug.com

Daisy - Foster Update, September 9th

Daisy has made some great improvements, in the last month.
First, she turned a year old!

Her recovery is going well. She has gained enough strength, to swim without a lifejacket! Her hind legs are gaining muscle and she is allowed to run and play. She must not do anything too rough. We have been doing extra walks, up and down hills, which will help her use her back legs and walk properly. At first, she would use both hind legs together and kind of hop. Her physiotherapist is very pleased and only expects her to have 3 or 4 more sessions.

I will be contacting her surgeon, to see if there are any special requirements for her placement (like not jumping down or playing rough with other dogs). Watch the home page, she should be up for adoption very soon! I will post her requirements for her placement, at that time.

Daisy - Vet Update August 7

Daisy has started her physiotherapy. She is going to Canine Wellness Centre, where she does water therapy and gets a variety of stretches and exercises to do at home. She has become a very active, 11 month old and does all the normal puppy activies, including chewing on everything in sight!

The world is fun and constantly showing her new and exciting things to do. What a enjoyable young girl! She loves to cuddle, inbetween spurts of energy.

Here are a couple of videos of her water therapy. She had been on the treadmill, once before, but this was her first time swimming.

Daisy - Vet Update July 19

Daisy went to the vets. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations and heartworm test. This little girl was well cared for. She then had new x-rays done of her hip. She had to be sedated and also, got her microchip done.

A few days later, we went to see Dr. Boyd, at the VEC (veterinary emergency clinic). She was diagnosed with a fracture of the left capital physeal of the femur and a dermoid sinus on the top of her head. She went for surgery and had the femoral head and neck removed. The mass on the top of her head, was also removed. During the surgery, she regurgitated some gastric fluid. They had to lavage her esophagus. She is on two pain killers, antibiotics and a gastroprotectent (because of the esophagus being irritated during surgery).

The hospital stay was two nights. We went to visit the second night. She was very happy to see us and wanted to play, then she settled on my lap for some quiet time. I picked her up late Thursday afternoon. She was very happy to leave, with us. I don't think much can get this girl down. At home, she is trying to play and amazingly, getting around on her atrophied legs. I will start doing gentle range of motion exercises, after 72 hours and then arrange to start physiotherapy.

Daisy's sitiches show the extent of the work Dr. Boyle at VEC had to do.

Daisy - Introduction, July 8

Daisy is 10 months old. The poor wee girl has already had surgery on one hip. The surgery was a Femoral Head excision, the same as Glory. It looks like the other side will need to be done, too. The medical expenses became too great, and her owners, sadly, turned her over to rescue.

She has already been spayed and had her nares (nostrils) done. What a cute little muffin! She has investigated the house and yard. She met a cat, for the first time! She followed Rosie around and checked her out. Daisy will be going for a vet assessment, early this week.
