360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
Grady - 3 or 4 year old male

Grady sails off into the sunset - June 21st

Well, my boy Grady has gone off to his new home.... unfortunately I forgot to take a picture but Matt has promised to send me one along with a continued happy tail entry. Grady was very excited when his new Dad Matt arrived with his friend to pick Grady up and Matt was very happy to finally get to take Grady home.

Grady and Matt had a good - if a bit short first night as Grady was a bit restless - but things are going well according to Matt. Grady loves to have a toy to hold on to in bed & was happy to have what had become his favourite toy - a pink flamingo from Ikea - to hold in his mouth as he finally settled down to sleep. Grady gets to be an "only" in his new home but will have a couple of friend's pugs to visit and play with from time to time. I bet you'll see Grady at a few Pugalugs in future as well - Matt has been to a couple with friends even when he did not have a pug of his own.

Grady happily jumped into the car when it was time to go ready for his new life. I really miss the little guy but know he will get to be the well-loved and spoiled little fellow he was always meant to be.

An energetic and fun loving pug is READY - May 7
Adoption Fee: $400

Requirements

Children 8 - 10 minimum ages depending on experience with dogs - he is a bit rough at times & is excited to meet & greet so small, inexperienced children could be a bit overwhelmed by his loving ways. Grady is a sweet and loving pug but work needs to continue on his manners. He can bark quite loudly when excited so apartments may not be the best home for him. He is learning and does understand "whisper" most of the time now.

One other dog or someone home as he likes to cuddle. Grady would be very lonely as an only he had had his brother and littermate with him until just prior to moving to Canada.

Preferably a fenced yard or access to a dog park as Grady loves to romp about regularly - he is still quite young & he loves the freedom of exploring off leash.

Grady loves bones and stuffed animals (and de-stuffing stuffed animals so hide anything special). Grady likes to be high up.... on furniture, beds and people. He is a good jumper.

He wants to sleep with people... Grady loves the big bed and snuggles right in at your feet.

Grady is very easy to love and greets you very enthusiastically when you return home. Grady and his foster brother and sister snuggle on the couch during the day. He does make some use of a dog bed but that is mostly for bone chewing or loving a stuffy. Grady is a special little guy who has the biggest, softest eyes - they are lovely and he has a real sense of fun.

Grady has a birthday coming up and would love a forever home and family to love him as much as he will love you. Its going to be very hard to see him go.

Foster Update - May 1

Grady is a very loving, sweet boy. He gets soooooo excited when people come home or simply reappear from elsewhere in the house. Grady is a barker or really more of a yelper when really excited but quiets down to a nice boy once the excitement is over but for the moment he goes a bit crazy running about yelping, spinning in circles, jumping on furniture to get his kiss in.....even when you come in quietly with no fanfare.

He also makes little noises when he plays - he can be by himself with a toy and growls at it ( thrill of the kill I guess) ..... or makes little lovey noises at it as he lays with his face buried deeply in the toys fur. A real character!!

There has only been one real moment of discontent that quieted fairly quickly with intervention (someone thought he'd sidle up to someone else's food bowl when his was slow to hit the floor.....) but beyond that he gets along well with the other two. Grady loves a stuffed toy and can play for quite awhile flinging it about, then settling to suck on the toy and make those little noises at it. He also loves bones - knuckle bones, marrow bones he is not fussy. He is getting EVO RF twice per day & a teaspoon of high quality wet - grain-free as well for the most part.

He has pooped on the floor a couple of times after the first few days but that does not appear to be habit just settling in. Grady's vet records from the US were positive and his vet visit here went well with the vet pronouncing him a terrific fellow and " oh look at his eyes". Grady has the biggest, softest eyes I have ever seen - they are huge. They do not bulge out any more than other pugs they are simply large and round - his eyes health-wise are fine. He has had his microchipping now as well.

Grady is a bit rough, climbing all over you. I would say he is most suitable for a family with older kids no younger than 8 - 10 depending on their experience with dogs. A timid, small child could be overwhelmed by his enthusiasm in meeting and greeting. Grady loves people, is good with other dogs and could be suitable for a home with or without another dog but he does need company so one other dog his age or someone at home will be the best situation for him. Grady had few house manners but has quickly learned to sit - but its short lived..... stay has no place in his vocabulary as yet. He also loves to climb - tables, chairs & you..... We are working at settling him down and on some very basic instructions. Grady loves to sleep in the big bed and after the first nights settles down right away - loving to sleep either in your arms ( for a short time) or at your feet or backs of legs/knees..

Grady's birthday is coming up - May 15 when he will be a big 3 years old. He's a great fellow, very sweet and he loves to give kisses - alot.

Foster Report - April 19

I have decided to call Gravy - Grady. He used to be one of two brothers known as Biscuit and Gravy but Biscuit was adopted in Kansas so Gravy was alone. Gravy without Biscuit does not have the same ring to it. He has not even noticed a difference!

Grady is a lovely boy. He is very handsome and svelte, with a long and relatively tall body. He has a very black face and lots of black in this coat. There is a band of very light fur on his left ankle.

He has had a couple of short naps and has eaten a good dinner. Grady is now happily chewing on a marrow bone and is quite content. Grady is still a bit shy but has been up for some cuddles and kisses and loves to be touched. His tail wags easily and he likes attention.

He came with note indicating he can be toy aggressive. We have not seen that but its still early. Grady has not had any accidents in the house as yet. All in all a good start.

Introduction - April 19

Gravy is a puppymill pug coming to us from Prairie Pugs Rescue in Kansas. They are at capacity with puppymill pugs and 2 of our volunteeres, Cass and Craig were going down to adopt a pug puppy from them. They offered to bring back some pugs to help relieve Prairie Pugs. We will have pictures and an update in a couple of days once he has settled into his foster home
