Gus is adopted - May 25 Gus has been adopted by a wonderful pug couple, Niki and Matt and will be spending his days frollicking with this new pug buddy, Miso. From the puppy mill farmlands of Kansas - to the gentle care of Prairie Pugs Rescue, up to Canada with the help of volunteers Cass and Craig, carefully attended to by foster mom Christine and finally into the welcoming arms Niki and Matt. Gus's new life is only just beginning. We will be seeing Gus and his family at future pugalugs so he will never be far from our hearts. |

Adoption Fee: $400 Well what can I say....he is an absolute sweetheart! Gus has settled right into our home like he was born here. We have never had an accidents, marking behaviours or any other behaviours from him. He loves to cuddle, be with people, play with our pugs, he hardly barks (whines a little)....he is the perfect pug. Gus had his Vet visit with our Vet today and overall his health is good. His weight is down from 22 pounds to 20.7 pounds which is an ideal weight for his body structure. We are very pleased with this so our goal is to maintain his weight between the 20 to 21 pound range. His mild case of viral kennel cough resolved its self in about 4 days and his greenish discharge (now just an occasional clear discharge) from his left eye has also almost resolved as well. His eye exam showed old corneal scarring in both eyes with small amounts of corneal pigment present as well. She did notice that there may be a skin fold that is touching the left cornea (that may be causing an irritation and discharge) but the eye appears normal today so we will continue to monitor the left eye for now. Gus did present today with an ear infection in both ears which I suspected may have returned (previous Vet records show some ear problems) and we have been cleaning them every other day for the last week or so. We are going to treat both ears with a topical anti fungal, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drops called Surolan for the next 2 weeks, use an ear cleaning solution and recheck them at that time. Last but not least, Gus received his scheduled monthly dose of Interceptor and has a dose for June and July. Gus should be ready for his new forever home as soon as his ear infection clears up (2-3 weeks). |

Foster Update - April 22 Gus arrived mid afternoon on Saturday March 19 after a very long transport from Kansas, USA and is reported to be a puppy mill pug. He is the sweetest black pug you could ask for. After meeting the gang of pugs at the Bells' house he settled in quickly, you would think that he has always lived here. He loves to cuddle up on the couch with anyone but he especially likes my husband Dave.He is a very easy going and friendly pug that likes to be with people but he will hold his own when the other pugs try to push him around. He gives them a warning bark and stance and they back off. He gets along great so far with all of our pugs and enjoys playing with all of them in the backyard. Gus is a follower, he follows Dave everywhere he goes. He is never more than a few feet away from him at anytime but he is never under foot. He prefers to walk along beside him and will sit and watch when Dave stops to do something. The rescue in Kansas sent a note saying that Gus has food aggression but we have never seen any. Gus loves to eat and is a little over weight (weight to be determined at Vet visit). He is a typical pug and thinks we are starving him due to his diet (3/4 cup per day). He tends to whine at getting half of his food in the am and half in the pm so we have had to give him a little more in the morning and a little less at night but he is starting to adjust. When the food bowl goes down---look out! He gobbles the food up quickly and then is looking for more. Gus also enjoys chewy sticks and will let any of us take them away from him without any aggression or whines/barks. He is a little unfamiliar with toys and has no interest in them yet. Gus come when called and will stay when told but does not know any other commands. He is doing an excellent job on house training and has never had an accidents since he arrived. We have noticed that Gus has a fear of going down stairs (but flies up them skipping 2 steps at a time) and maybe scared of heights. He also is uncomfortable being picked up so we will work on these things. Dave says he's a keeper and will make someone a great pet! He also admitted that if we did not have so many
pugs already that he would keep him but he has assured me that we will not become a foster failure. |
