Halle is off on a new adventure - December 15

A happy tail from Abby's new forever Dad

Abby, known to Pugaluggers as Halle for the past couple of months, moved into (took over?) her Forever Home at our house to a warm reception from her new pug brother Otis and her new "people brother", 11-month-old Keaton. Abby picked right up where she'd left off from the initial home visit -- romping with Otis and happily licking and cuddling with Keaton.

She immediately made herself at home, and wasn't shy in her first attempts to find sleeping space (jumping up on the bed and parking herself on Brenda's pillow, followed seconds later by deep snores). We're still waiting for Otis to remind her that he was here first, although he may not yet realize that she's now a permanent fixture. His initial tentativeness with sharing "his" bed with Abby soon gave way to them curling up together contentedly.

The housebreaking problems reported by her previous owners haven't materialized at all, as she went out obligingly despite the deep and blowing snow. Our family is thrilled to have her, and based on the non-stop wagging of her tail, she seems pretty content too.

Halle, is a lovely, healthy little girl who is being neutered in two Thursday’s time. After a week or so of recuperation, she’ll be ready to go. Even though she was reported to mess in the house, I’ve never had an accident. She is friendly and sociable to everyone and everything, so she would be fine with children of any age. She would be perfect with another dog, as she and Jackson enjoy playing, wrestling, and licking each other, but she is fairly independent and isn’t underfoot all the time.

She’s crate trained, and her only annoying habit is a horrific squeal she makes as soon as she hears the first person up, but as most people enjoy pugs on their bed, the only noise to come out of her would be snores. She’s not particularly bright, and hasn’t been trained to do anything, but she’s eager, and is very attentive to treats, so with work, I’m sure she will come along with sit, come, etc. very well.

Around her left eye (owner said recent accident) that was red and hairless when she came into foster is now just hairless. When she goes in for neutering the vet will have another look at it.

Foster Update- Nov 17

Halle went to the vet yesterday. The doctor commented on her excellent teeth and coat, trimmed her nails (squirmy), took some blood (very squirmy), and will watch for any improvement, or worsening of her left eye redness/hairlessness. Her raspy breathing is pure pug. She will be neutered in 3 weeks and after another few weeks will be ready for a forever home.

On the home front, still no accidents. Her problem in her past home must have been situational. Halle is a pleasure to take on walks, very placid, yet still curious about smells and rustling leaves. She doesn't seem to know any commands, and is so eager about treats, and a bit snatchy, so we will have our work cut out teaching her anything. Halle is a sloppy drinker, and wets her chin and surrounding floor area, but she eats very delicately, removing each piece of kibble from the bowl to enjoy it. Content to cuddle for the most part, every so often she will start a wrestle and produce an ungodly reptile sound. I'm quite looking forward to watching this sweet natured girl open up in her new environment.

Foster Update- Nov 13

After 24 hours in foster care. Halle’s breathing has improved. She still hasn’t had any accidents, but she’s been out for lots of walks, and trips to the backyard. She has definitely been told by Jackson who is top dog in the house, and quietly waits her turn and takes second place for human attention. Yet Jackson is reluctant to be far from her, gives up his toys to her and comes running whenever she barks.

Her trip to pug park garnered lots of sniffs, coos and admiration. She is a beauty.

Introduction

Halle is an owner surrender who was reportedly having house training problems. Her foster mom sends us this first day report

Halle came into foster yesterday evening. Her breathing is laboured and raspy, probably from a long transport combined with stress. A pale, petite, intact girl, Halle is affectionate, eager and inquisitive. She has some redness and hair loss around her left eye, but hopefully the medication that came with her will clear this up.

Reportedly having housebreaking issues, Halle had no accidents yet, and was quite happy to play the pee/poo outisde and get a treat game.

Her ever-rambunctious foster brother Jackson hovered about her all night. She greeted his initial humping with a snarl, but once they got more familiar with each other, began to have many give-and-take wrestling sessions. At night's end they retired to their respective crates and had undisturbed sleeps.

Halle's breathing was not much improved this morning, and a trip to the vet later this week will investigate this.
