Harry - adopted August 4th Because of Harry's breathing condition and his ongoing monitoring and use of a puffer, his foster folks had to find a very special home for him. Fortunately, one of our own regular pugaluggers sent us an email sayitng they were prepared to look ofter Harry and continue with the care he will need. Here is Sanday and Debbie's Happy Tail on Harry:"Well, we all got up early this morning and went up to the vet in Caledon. Harry got his final health check, micro chip and vaccinations. Then we were off to Hamilton for a home visit. Kelly and Ben have two pugs of their own; one that they rescued. They have a beautiful big yard and a welcoming house. Harry took to them right away; he was content with his new brothers as well. He has had a lot of change in his life in the last little while and we believe he has found his forever home. Peace to Harry and thank you to Kelly and Ben for taking a senior pug. He is a very special little guy." |

Foster Update, July 27 Harry went in to the Oakville/Mississauga VEC for tests to determine the cause of his cough. The surgery team was on standby in case their skills were required. Our little pug rescue community were send well wishes to Harry's foster folks because it can be such a stressing time. Here is their report:"Thanks everyone for your good thoughts and support for Harry. They worked and he will be coming back "home" tonight. The initial X-rays showed that his sternum curls under which makes his chest cavity a bit smaller but presents no real problems. He then had a "flurascope" done which I think is like a "movie" of his lungs and airways. It showed nothing but a small airway!! Yipee for Harry. The vets believe that this is what is causing the cough. He is being prescribed a broncial dialator (puffer). the same thing we use for asthma. The only challange we face is using the puffer on him. He now has his ears and eyes cleaned regularly which he HATES. This will be put on the list of "necessary intrusions that Harry dislikes but have to be done." Harry is going to be ready for his "forever home" very soon. His new family is going to be very lucky because he is an amazing, special wee man. |
Foster Update, July 17 Harry had his initial vet check up yesterday. He has a grade three heart mermer and he had a "cough". The vet wants to do a few tests to check for laryngeal paralysis, enlarged heart, etc. We are going to try to get all of his xrays from his previous vet to save some money and to have something to compare new ones to.It looks like the previous vet treated his "cough" with cough medicine but did not try to figure out what was wrong. Hopefully that can be done without too much distress for Harry. He is settling in well, he started to play with toys and does pay attention to the other dogs. He is very nice, well behaved and a kind sole. He does not like his ears to be cleaned; if I understand correctly the previous vet put him under to do it but it can be done and is a must because of chronic problems. He loves to sleep in the big bed and he LOVES to eat. |
Foster Update, July 14 We have the wonderful "little" Harry. He is a great guy and is going to make a great pet. We have his medical records which we looked at. He has had a "cough" for many, many years which is treated with medication over and over again. I don't know if the "cause" has been explored. Also, he has had chronic ear infections treated the same.He may have had surgery for his naires and soft pallet. Deb is going to clarify his records with the vet next week. He should loose some weight; this would help with his breathing which is labored. He has a vet appointment on Monday evening. He slept on the big bed and Winston comforted him. Harry is quite content, loves the company of other dogs and is very friendly. He is nervous on occasion but who wouldn't be. He knows to go outside to go the bathroom; no accidents yet. He came with nothing from his home; no collar, blanket, toy; nothing. When he was with his owner, he had a cat companion all of his life. The cat is 15, grey and very affectionate with Harry. Debbie saw the cat at the Oakville Humane Sociey and dog interact and really believes it would be nice if they were adopted together. the cat rub Harry over and over again and stayed close to him. Introduction - July 12 Harry came to the Oakville Humane Society after his previous owner passed away. It was obvious to Andrea at the Society that Harry had been loved and well taken care of. She managed to track done his origical vet so we have Harry's medical records going back to his puppy days.Harry was depressed the frist few days - wondering where this human comapnion was. However he eventually adjusted and is now wiggling with anticipation of his new adventure. He has now come into our care as we will find him the loving home he deserves. Oh, one more thing she reports - in true pug fashion, Harry does not like getting his nails trimmed |
