The Kansas 6 In Memory of Randy Tallon 8 wee pugs say "Thanks Randy - we will miss you" |

On December 2, Pugalug Pug Rescue took in 6 rescue pugs from Prairie Pugs Rescue in Auburn, Kansas: Chloe, Josette, Ginger, Myrtle, Maude, Lucky along with adopted pugs Gwen and Jilly |

One of our foster volunteers, Alison, was adopting a senior from Prairie Pugs (Gwen). Her partner Randy and her were going to drive down to pick up Gwen and bring her back. They decided that, since they were going down, they may as well see if they could bring more "pugs in need" back. A friend of Alison's also adopted a pug from PP Rescue so that made two for the journey. Prairie Pugs was over quota with 31 pugs in their care. That area of Kansas had numerous puppy mill operations and Prairie Pugs was conintually rescuing breeder pugs from these operations. In addition, PP Rescue had no applicants for these pugs. Alison approached me to see if we could take in some. I put out the word for foster homes for these special ones. Unlike owner surrender pugs, puppy mill pugs generally have more severe health problems and are not house trained. Our dedicated foster volunteers responded and we were able to take in 6 pugs. Arrangements were made to pay Prairie Pugs the adoption fees, which helped them financially to offset their vet costs (PP Rescue had covered all the vetting and spaying of these rescues) |

Alison and Randy setoff but on there way there, encountered an ice storm in Missouri. It was dangerous and slow going but they made it to Prairie Pugs. They had planned to leave on November 30th and reach Toronto on December 1st. The packed up the 8 pugs safely and headed out. However they encountered a snow storm going through Iowa. White out conditions made for little progress, only 80 miles in 3 hours. The pugs were as good as gold, happily snoring away in their pug piles. Randy and Alison decided to stay the night at a motel. Newspapers were laid down, business taken care of and then a good night's sleep. |
Finally on Saturday, December 2nd, they met the designated transport volunteers who delievered the pugs to their
new foster homes. These 8 pugs have now begun a new life, one of love, care and affection. Many people, on both sides
of the border, came together to ensure that would happen. It is what rescue is about, it is what we believe in. |
