Adopted

Kenny left this morning with his new mum, Rebecca. Kenny will be living in Peterborough and will have former rescue Poochie as a cousin. So long Kenny- we wish you well with your wonderful new family.

Kenny

Kenny needs someone committed to spend time with him to teach him a few things. He is a very good boy who wants to be well behaved and has one of the most expressive little faces I have ever seen.

He is eating a high quality grain-free kibble and should continue with good diet and regular daily exercise to increase strength in his back legs.

Kenny should remain on a joint supplement such as Sasha's blend. His luxating patella could potentially need surgery at some point in his life.

This little guy was left alone at night for most of his life. He absolutely loves to be in the big bed and deserves to be in the company of his people at night. He was reported to be un-housetrained but that has not been the case here. I would recommend a belly band for the transition to his new home just to be on the safe side.

He was initially being gated into our kitchen when we went out but is now being left with the run of the house and settles in well when left with the other dogs. He is not destructive, and doesn't display any separation anxiety.

He can be a bit barky (when he isn't getting his food served fast enough, for example) though this is a recent development that he might unlearn. We have been working on his rude outbursts. Patience and consistency is required to teach Kenny the rules. He really needs to be held and calmed. It seems that he is so happy he gets overstimulated. I am sure that with time, love and patience he will become more secure. He does well on a lead, but needs some reward training for focusing. He is so happy and excited when he's out and about that he sometimes forgets you are there!

He seems to do best with a female dog (maybe because his foster brother allows the rude behaviour where the foster sister doesn't) but he is well liked by most dogs when he on walks.

A semi detached or detached home would suit Kenny and would be happiest to have a fenced yard where he can run off-leash.

Foster Update, November 9, 2009

Kenny is a sweet natured and happy boy. He has been neutered, microchipped and has settled in to the routine in his foster home. We had prepared ourselves for housetraining issues and there have been none after his first 72 hours here (when he was neutered). Kenny enjoys marking all the trees on our walks but has not marked in the house. We've started him on Metacam and a joint supplement for the pain in his left knee which was feeling fine until he cut it rather mysteriously being a little over zealous playing. He continues to enjoy his playmates as much as they are enjoying him. He's extremely sociable, still rather excitable for a 5 year old -though it's all in fun he needs to be calmed a little , and needs supervision as the encounters can sometimes make other dogs defensive. He is a big cuddler and melts into you once playing is done. I think he would enjoy a home with other dogs for company- preferably ones that are up for a lot of playing and snuggling.

Introduction, October 25, 2009

Kenny is an owner surrender. He is unaltered and reported to be a marker, and will need to wear a belly band indoors until he is trained and neutered. He is a smart little fellow and exudes pug happiness.

He will see the vet on Monday and have his neuter scheduled. He appears to have a sore left knee that should be looked at too. His pink tongue spends all it's time hanging out and adds to his smiley charm. He is thoroughly enjoying his two playmates and many dizzying pugtonas have made their way around the kitchen island. He is sure to sleep soundly tonight. That is, If Lorna gives him his bed back.
