Koshi-lin came to Pugalug in June of 2006 and immediately won the hearts of all us. Her strong personality and stories from her foster mom endeared this little pug to all Pugaluggers. Koshi had advanced degenerative disc disease which she finally succumbed to. But she had a wonderful life during those years - much loved by her human and canine family

Kokobella - Foster Update, Sept 9th

Koko continues to go from strength to strength. She is pure black pug diva all the way. She chases squirrels, bosses anyone and everything, is a fierce guard dog (in her own little mind) and just generally is a going concern. When she first came to foster care, i would have said that she needed a quiet and understanding home. I now think she needs a busy and active home that is understanding of the fact that she believes that she is all that and a cup of coffee.

She has self confidence to spare and is a very "in your face" girl. She is easily doing the hour long walk in my local dog park, but has to stay on leash as she chases bikes and joggers (little dickens). She will always have a wobbly looking walk, but it sure doesn't slow her down. If the urinary crystals resolve, she will make someone a very engaging and entertaining pet. Just as long as you know who's in charge---KOKO!

Kokobella - Foster Update, August 18th

The X-ray showed no sign of stones and it looks like her wobbly gait is the result of an old back trauma. Both urine results were negative for infection. However there was no blood in the urine either. The vet tech told me that she was good as gold during the X-rays--they weren't sure they could get spinal X-rays as they need the dog to be motionless and most aren't while being held on their backs without anaesthesia. She just lay there and licked the tech's fingers while they X-rayed her.

The approach now is to change her diet and do without the antibiotics. She is going in on the 21st for her spaying and dental work.

Kokobella - Foster Update, August 13th

Kokobella has been on anti-biotics for a couple of weeks now. Here urine sample went in on Saturday. We will likely not have results until Monday or Tuesday--had to be sent to the lab. At that point, the decision will be made as to whether we do yet another round of antibiotics or x-ray for a stone.

Aside from that she is blooming. Has started to come up and down my deck stairs, is now walking in the Big park with the other dogs--it's a long walk so I wanted to be sure she was in good shape first and she's started to be able to kick a bit with her back legs after peeing or pooping. Before she could only kick with her front legs. She is the essence of spunk and spirit.

Kokobella - Foster Update, July 9

Kokobella (AKA Koko) is a very active, if slightly wobbly girl. She has had her first vet assessment and her bloodwork and fecal came back A-OK. Unfortunately, she has a roaring UTI and some struvite crystals. This may account for what was thought to be incontinence. She is being treated with antibiotics and her diet will be modified to help avoid further problems, but she may be prone to UTIs in the future.

She will get the rest of her vaccines and a urine recheck in a couple of weeks and then we will look at spaying her and getting a dental done. Her teeth are in dreadful shape. We will also X-ray her spine at that time. It is likely that she has disc problems and some neuropathy. It might not be treatable this late in the game. Spinal issues are best treated within the first 48 hours.

She loves to zoom around the back yard with the other dogs, plays tug and enjoys a good bone or bully stick. She goes to the park with all the other dogs and just wobbles along at her own speed--which is pretty darn fast, actually. She still has a ways to go to determine how extensive her spinal damage is, ut her foster mother is hopeful that she is not incontinent and that clearing up the UTI will stop most if not all of the peeing accidents. She has a malformed right front foot from an accident during the removal of her dew claw

Kokobella - Introduction June 26th

Kokobella is a small, 7 year old black female pug. Her owner reports that Kokobella has a possible growth on the spine or nerve damage that is affecting her back. Kokobella is dearly loved by her first owner and it was difficult to make the decision to surrender her. Pugalug Pug Rescue will be taking in Kokobella and start a medical assessment, provide the veterinary care and find her an equally loving home in the end.
