Lexi is a bright, beautiful girl who's full of energy and eager to please. She loves her tennis balls and will hide them inside and out. I've even found the odd treat buried creatively in my house plants. She also has a passion for stuffed, squeaky toys, kongs and rawhide chew sticks. She's good with other dogs and she'll present them with toys to engage them in play (a gentle nudge works too). Lexus never tires of a game of fetch. It's even better when she's got a few dogs in tow chasing her around the yard. She is really a gem in the car as well. Although Lexus takes treats very gently one on one, but she will contend for the other dogs treats when there's more than one dog. She'll also try to claim their dinner, toys or treats. She knows basic commands but is not consistent enough in responding to "come" to allow her off leash. Lexus should not be in a home with small children. She's too boisterous and could knock them over when she jumps up. Lexus is fairly well house trained but will need work until she's familiar with a new routine. Her training is about 90% complete. She will not bark to go outside but she'll sit at the door and look at her owner. She can get distracted in the yard and forget to do her business so its best if you go out with her to ensure the job is done. Otherwise she may have an accident in the house. Lexus would benefit from an experienced dog owner who will gently but firmly work with her on overcoming her challenges. Her puppy like nature and exuberance could be daunting for a first time dog owner. She will bark if there's something going on in a neighbouring yard or if other dogs in the neighbourhood are barking. She doesn't bark if there's nothing going on. For this reason she's requires a single family dwelling. She would not work well in a condo or apartment. Most importantly Lexi needs a yard where she can safely fetch tennis balls and run off some steam. Lexus is a not a big snuggler until she's tuckered out at which point she likes to curl up in a ball close to her humans. Lexus enjoys the big bed and likes to snuggle up around the pillows. She previously slept on the couch so I'm sure she would adjust to sleeping near her owners but not necessarily in the bed. She does not respond well to crating. |

Introduction, July 16 Lexus is a sweet, loveable, energetic girl who wins over whoever she meets. Lexus' owners struggled with the decision to surrender her but decided she'd do best in a home where she wasn't alone so much and one that had a yard. After a long day of play, she's happy to snuggle up for some down time. She enjoys the big bed. I've found her on more than one occasion stretched out in my son's bed with her head on the spare pillow. Walks and exercise are important. She'll fetch tennis balls as long as you're willing to toss them. She's settled in well and is getting along well with her foster siblings. We've been feeding her separately to keep the peace. She's very gentle about accepting her treats. She's been doing very well with housebreaking other than the first day which is expected. Lexus shares a guilty pleasure with her foster sibling Clara. They love stuffed toys and are only fully satisfied when the toy is unstuffed and the squeaker is being chewed. Lexus engages in play with the other dogs. She'll also share toys or raw hides with her siblings. She'll whimper to let you know she'd like access to her toys. (She hasn't fully trained her foster mom yet). Lexus is neither aggressive nor passive. She'll exert herself when a resident male is too persistent but will also roll on her back during play. Lexus does like to bark and as such she would be best suited for a single family dwelling with a yard. This girl needs to run! Lexus definitely has some pup left in her. We'll work with her on jumping up, contention for treats or meals and the occasional puppy like nibbling of fingers or ears. This brindle babe would fit nicely with an active family with older kids. |
