Lorna - 2 year old female |
|
Adopted - October 10 Lorna is staying just where she is. A sigh of relief was heard from family and friends who, like us, couldn't help but fall in love with her. A big personality has emerged in this girl. She is a very special girl who is always ready for a cuddle, but like one of her infamous pups, she can really stir it up and be quite a fearless bossy pants!. We look forward to watching her move from strength to strength. She will be continuing with physio and swimming and lots of play with her brother Stuart. |

Foster Update - Sept 26 she has been taking metacam and sasha's blend. there's alot of clicking and popping in her hips and knees but she seems alot more comfortable now and very happy to play now more than sleep.she has started physio therapy and really enjoys her swimming and more time running around the park. still uncertain whether she requires surgery on knee or not. fingers crossed. She has five more sessions scheduled and nearer the end of that I will be taking her to my vet to look at the knees again. She does look so much better, I am hopeful for her not requiring surgery. Her confidence has really come through in the past couple of weeks-playing tug, stealing toys away from stu and learning new commands and being very pleased with herself... and definitely no longer skittish around other dogs, just people sometimes. Her coat is noticably thicker and shinier as she slowly gets back what the puppies borrowed! she is now up to 14lbs which is hard to believe given her tiny frame.as for the stubbornness..well that's seems to just be a bonus of having lorna in our lives... she certainly knows what she wants to do and when she will do it! I think she knows how cute she is. |

Foster Update - August 9 Lorna had her sutures removed on july 28th and our vet remarked that her incision had healed up beautifully. After a safe window for her incision to heal up she spent a week at the lake with us and swam like a fish!! She absolutely loves to be in the water and had a grand time--- except for an allergic reaction to a bee sting or a toad lick (we think) late in the week. we acted quickly-gave her benadryl and then drove to a vet clinic in a nearby town to get a shot of epinephrin. It took her hives about 24 hrs to go down and then she was right as rain. She is ready to begin physiotherapy now and her love for water should make it a breeze. (if only we could say the same for our stu... he much prefers to lay in a shady spot on the dock and have his servants pour water on him when he is hot.) We are still working on her leash walking issues. she really decides when and where sometimes! Working on finding the trigger for her stubborn behavior (yes I know she is a pug...) and rewarding her tons when she cooperates. Her legs have straightened up alot more -as have her hips. the whole back end is looking sturdier but it is still quite weak. (she "flops" her back end down, doesn't sit very daintily) and the knees are still giving her pain, most notably to squat, you can hear her complain when she does..so...She has been taking 7.5 mg of metacam daily which seems to be helping a bit. The vet recommended quite a bit of physio, likely 3 months for her before attempting the surgery on the left knee. thank goodness it's not the hips too though. |

Foster Update - July 21st Lorna went in today for her spaying and checking the hipsGood news all around--she was spayed and X-rayed today and the hips are fine. Vet was expecting Legge-Calve-Perthes and it's not there. the hips are fine. One knee is not good, but vet says she needs a minimum of 3 to 4 months physiotherapy and muscle toning before even thinking about doing anything surgical and she isn't convinced surgery is the answer. She came through the surgery with flying colours--no anaesthetic issues. She came out quickly and immediately starting demanding attention. |

Foster Update - July 5th Lorna had her first vet visit with her new foster mom. The staff came out to greet and cuddle their newest patient. She has had her vaccinations, examination and a consult on the care Lorna will need - her spaying, x-rays and microchipping is scheduled for Monday July 21st. She can be very headstrong (in the walking dept.) and I am now thinking that has more to do with her hips and legs giving out (as well as just being well...a pug) so she gets carried from time to time.... wee Lorna continues to rest up..it seems that it will take a while for her to recover from all this mothering. She continues to have pain in both knees and hips, but from time to time loves to really move and has sudden bursts of playfulness at the park (but definitely on her own time !) The legs are straightening up and her skin is improving.. but I think we have reached a plateau in terms of the boobies and the legs springing back on their own.... So, we will continue with short walks to build some muscle..and plenty of cuddling and rest. Stuart, her foster pug brother, can't wait till she can tear around with him all the time... for now they enjoy wrestling and snuggling and piling on top of me! she snores away at my feet. a few more grey hairs but when I see that face I know it's all good. Lorna settles into her new foster home |
Foster Update - June 21st Lana's name has been changed to Lorna in hounour of her new life. She came into our rescue pregnant and about ready to give birth. We decided to wait and see how the birth went and the survival of the pups before we included it in her history. We are happy to say that, thanks to the love and dedication of her experienced foster mom, Lorna gave birth to 7 pups by C-section. She was an excellent mother to the pups and all 7 are healthy and are in the process of being adopted out (again, thanks to the tireless efforts of the foster volunteer) Meanwhile Lorna, her job done, has been moved to a foster home where she can roam free, play with an abumdance of toys and snuggle with her foster pug brother. She was only in her new home for a couple of hours when she claimed a couple of comfy spots. |
|
Foster Update - May 28 Lorna continues to adjust well with her surrondings. She had her vet checkup and more details of that will be posted later. For now, she gets along with the other pugs in her foster home. She will have a little longer for her period of adjustment. For now, know that she is happy and being well taken care of. |
Foster Update - May 13 Lorna is settling in. She loves to be around people - whines a bit when her foster mom leave the room. She will need some housebreaking training Nothing extensive but Lorna does like to hold her bladder. We will know more about little Lorna and have a picture after the weekend. |
Lorna gives a little Whoo, Whoo to show that she's happy in the sunshine |
Introduction - May 10 Lorna is an owner surrender. She is reportedly on the small size ("she was the runt of the litter") and has had one previous litter. The owner cannot provide the emotional and financial security for Lama but wants to ensure that she finds a good home. So we were contacted to see if we could assist. |
