Louie - 4.5 Year Old Male |
|
Happy Tails
It's been two weeks since Louie came into our lives and we just adore him! For the first few days, Louie was fairly skittish (to be expected). He was mostly nervous of men, but he is much better with greeting them now as well as strangers. He has now recognized us as his pack and family. Since this breakthrough in trust, a whole different pug has emerged! Louie is a playful and silly little man! He enjoys playing "catch" with our middle son. Louie is able to catch a small ball in the air and then he actually throws it back! He also loves having his pug cousins chase him...and boy does he have wheels! He absolutely loves to be outside and has even enjoyed a trip up to the cottage. Louie is a perfect mix of playful and snuggly...always curling up against you for a nap or rub/scratch on his favourite spot on his neck (I refer to him as Lil Louie Love Bug or Louie Fernando meaning "Brave Traveller") . We have continued with Louie's raw diet and it's going really well. He loves to eat! His treats consist of apples, carrots, dried liver and he goes nuts for a good ole stinky bone! Louie is amazing with children and enjoys walking to the school to pick up his kids/brothers as well as getting tons of attention from the hoards of students there. He also likes to tuck his kids in at night with his new Mom (who he is completely attached to...Velcro city!). Louie's "sit" and "recall" commands are great now. We've also been working on a "be nice" command (barking at newcomers...dogs and people) and that is going really well. I know he was said to have some "marking" issues. but we are happy to report that he hasn't had a single episode (attributing that to him being neutered and consistency on our part)! We feel so blessed to have this little angel come into our lives and I personally feel that he and I (new Mom) have such a deep connection. Louie is loved by many already and is settling into our big/fat, crazy, loving family!!! He's a perfect fit! We are so proud of Louie and can't shower him with enough praise and love! Thank you to all the volunteers at Pugalug...we are forever grateful!!! |
Adopted
Louie is a silly little guy, who loves to curl up with you on the couch, which is his favourite sleeping spot, despite having many dog beds to choose from. Like a true pug, he follows me everywhere, even to the bathroom. He is confident when it comes to meeting new dogs or things in the world. He ignores the cat, as she has told him that she doesn't want to play or be his friend. He may try to initiate play with another cat. Louie does bark when people enter the property or house, but will stop once he's told to be quiet, unless the person is unknown and is moving around from room to room. He loves to roll around on the carpet for a back rub and makes the most adorable sounds, grabbing at his back paws with enjoyment. It's pretty funny to watch. He sleeps in a crate at bedtime. He loves his bedtime cookie and will run into his crate and wait for his cookie when we tell him that it's bedtime. He will go into his crate if no one is going to be home as well. He isn't left alone much with us but he is good for up to 8 hours. He has marked inside the house before he was neutered. Since getting neutered, he has only done so a few times. The Vet said it can take a few weeks or so for the neuter to take effect, on the marking issue. He will need to be supervised coming into a new home, until he is clear of his boundaries and he is feeling secure. Louie will bark when someone enters the house, or if he hears noise outside, or one of our other dogs starts barking. He will require further obedience training to learn all of his basic commands. He is working on mastering 'sit' and 'come'. He will choose to ignore your command to come if something more interesting is in his view, but then will come. We are still working on his sit, which is getting better. He walks well on leash, but will pull if he sees another animal or person that he wants to meet. Louie is an easy dog, wanting nothing more than to be close enough to see that his humans are in the room. He will make one special family very happy! |
Foster Update, May 20, 2014
Louie is a silly little guy, who loves to curl up with you on the couch - his favourite sleeping spot (despite having many dog beds to choose from LOL). Like a true pug, he follows me everywhere, even the bathroom. He is confident when it comes to meeting new dogs or things in the world. He loves to run and chase our rottie (the head of the doggie household). He plays well with all the other dogs too and he ignores the cat as she has told him that she doesn't want to play or be his friend. He will go into the creek for a drink on walks and to cool off on hot days, but he's not a big water guy. Louie does bark when people enter the property or house, but will stop once he's told to be quiet, unless the person is unknown and is moving around from room to room. He seems to think that it's a new person coming into the room as opposed to the same person from 5 minutes ago. He loves to roll around on the carpet for a back rub and makes the most adorable sounds while doing so, grabbing at his back paws with enjoyment. It's pretty funny to watch. He is a great eater now that he is on raw food and is up to 21 lbs, which appears to be the ideal body weight for this slender little cutie pie. He loves his bedtime cookie and will run into his crate and wait for his cookie when we tell him that it's bedtime. We are still working on his sit, which is getting better. He walks well on leash, but will pull if he sees another animal or person that he wants to meet. He really enjoys apple pieces as his treats and playing with his soft toys. Louie is an easy dog, wanting nothing more than to be close enough to see that his humans are in the room. He will make one special family very happy! |
Introduction, April 29, 2014
Louie is a wonderfully confident 4 1/2 year old pug who came into Pugalug just over a week ago. He did very well during his first night, happily sleeping in his crate without a peep. In the morning, he was happy to see his foster people and eager to go on a walk, making sure to pee on every tree. He is a puller while on leash, but his foster family is working on that. He enjoys playing with the resident pug and Rottweiler and doesn't mind the resident bulldog either. He's a little shy with the resident cat, which is odd because he had previously lived with them. However, he doesn't seem to have a problem with the cat in general and it gets a long with him. He eats well, but isn't a fan of dog treats though - even dried liver! He doesn't seem to have any issues when it comes to housetraining and goes to the bathroom regularly. In general, Louie is a quiet pug and isn't much of a snorter due to his longer snout - something that bodes well for snoring too! However, he will bark at people when they come in the house or noises outside. He also likes to bark at his human foster brother when he comes in the kitchen at night, even though he knows him. It's something that will have to be worked on. Despite the barking, Louie is great with all people, including kids. He's a bit shy at first, but quickly warms up and enjoys a pet. He passed his vet wellness check with flying colours, except for his teeth. He had a dental cleaning today to remove the significant amount of tarter build up. He also had two loose teeth removed, which will also help with the overcrowding. He isn't neutered so he will be having that done in about 3-4 weeks and will be microchipped then as well. He was given his rabies vaccinations during his wellness check and did well. Overall, Louie is a funny little guy and a typical velco pug. He loves to roll around on the carpet in his foster mom's office, but has no problem curling up on her feet for a nap while she works - even though there's a perfectly good dog bed just a couple feet away! In sum, he will make one special very happy! |
