Mojo- 3 year old male
Mojo had a great Christmas with his family

Mojo joins a new family - May 8

Mojo will be spending many happy days in the company of his new Mom and Dad, Heather and David, along with their 7 year old pug, Roxie. They are both wonderful animal care givers and I have no doubt that Mojo will be very happy living with them. Brinley is their daughter's dog and will be coming for visits so he was on hand for Mojo's home visit.

David came today to pick Mojo up. Mojo remembered him and gave David a welcoming tail wag. Mojo then proceeded to jump up on the picnic table and walk all over his adoption contract (guess he wanted to do is own signing). David is off work for the next week so he'll be watching and caring closely to help Mojo with the transition.

Update April 15

Mojo had an excellent vet checkup. His tear production is strong. He will need to have an inexpensive eye lubrication once a night but otherwise he is in tip top shape. He transitioned to Orijen Adult Formula kibble 2 weeks ago and his skin continues to clear up (see picture below).

Mojo loves children and other dogs and gets along with cats once his curiosity is over. He is crate trained but will just as easily sleep during the day on his bed while people are at work. He does give a quick bark when he hears someone in the apartment hallway but comes when called and lays back down. So if there is a concern about noise in a condo or apartment, Mojo will not do - unless you're looking for a good guard dog.

He is a joy to have around, jumps up in the air to greet me when I get home and will play a game of tug or belly rub anytime you're into it.

Foster Update - March 23rd

Mojo was the perfect little gentleman this weekend at All About Pets. He had some fans come up to the booth who recognized him from the website. He sat quietly while the children gave him pets (of course, the Bully Liver Chops helped with him staying focused on the job). Mojo and I did a promo for the Pet Network so watch for that in the coming weeks. And he went in twice, into th Doggie Q Fashion show where he greeted the people sitting close to the runway, sniffing all there hands for treats.

His skin is very much improved so I've started this week to transition him to a no-grain kibble to see how he reacts. So far there has been no major return to the itching. I found out he loves apple slices and baby carrots.

He now sits patiently while I apply the lubrication to this eye. I get him to first sit then I place the treat between his paws so he knows it is there. I do the first eye and then let him get teh treat. Then I repeat on the other side. I will make an appointment for him as I believe he is ready for his tear test

Foster Update - March 2nd

Mojo went in for his checkup at Usher Animal Hosptial and weighed in at a svelt 9.9 Kg. He was nervous about being examined and it took copiuous amounts of Medi-treats to get him to hold still for taking the blood. However the tests came back and he is in tip top shape. Dr McMullen had not yet received the full records from Mojo's previous vet - just a summary. They are mailing the complete set. He is up to date on his shots and he is micro chipped.

During the eye examintion she pointed out the beginning of PK (Pigmentary Keratitis) so we have started him on Lacri-lube. On the next vet visit, we are going to do a tear test. Mojo is not used to having his eyes touched so I'm working now on getting him to sit still so I can administer the lube. It's going to take awhile to train him, but he will need to sit still for the tear test. So this is going to be our little project for March.

Behaviorally he has adjusted well and got along with all the dogs in the park from the first day. We went to visit pug Tommie and she gave him licks the whole time we were there. Mojo just laid on his back and took it all in.

Foster Update - Feb. 20

Mojo has pretty much stopped his itching. The hot spots on his head and hindquarters have cleared up. And he is no longer scratching at his ears. So now we begin the process of boosting his immune system so his body can continue to heal itself. You won't notice it from the pictures, but there has already been some improvement to the skin.

He has comforatably found his place amongst the boys. He and Odin continue to have a nightly wrestling match. And we went to visit Freddie, Robert and their pug Tommie. Tommie spent almost the entire visit washing Mojo's face. Mojo loved the attention and kept rolling on his back for her.

Mojo still scratches at the door after I leave for work but he soon settles down. He is still in transition and not quite sure of the circumstances. He used to try to bolt out the door but has learned to sit until I give him the okay. And he now regularly comes when called.

Blessed with a loving Pug Heart

We are certainly fortunate to have Mojo with us for Valentine's Day. He is a perfect little loving gentleman. He has heeded Dante's warning growl and obediently stays away from him. (But in a couple of weeks they will be best friends)
Each night, Mojo and Odin have a wrestling match which brings me to laughter each time I see it. All in all he would fit in with a household that has another dog. I'm going to see how he is with cats next week.

Mojo is on a raw meat protein diet. I've eliminated any other potential allergens from his diet and he is fed 6 oz of raw chicken each night. For treats I give him a small piece of raw ground beef. This will effecively remove the source of his skin allergies. With the raw chicken, he is getting the minerals, vitamins and nutrients needed to boost his immune system that will begin the healing process of restoring his skin.

In addition, each night I'm applying a skin balm of tea tree and lavender oil, Glaxol Base and acidophilus. The essential oils are anti-microbial, anti-viral - thus penetrating the skin to eliminate the bacteria.

At first he did not want to go for too long a walk. I'm sure it was the weather. However when he saw Odin bouncing along like Rudolph the Reindeer - Mojo soon developed a liking for the neighbourhood walks. Today we made it to the park and I was able to get a couple of pictures. Mojo respecfully went up to all the dogs, responded well to the signals and made some new friends.

At night, he has claimed the spot at the top of the bed next to my head. He can be quite a snuggler and will make someone a loving companion. He will be going for his vetting next week and I'll provide another update then.

Introduction - February 5, 2008

Mojo is a happy, playful little pug who is suffering from skin allergies. We will be assessing his condition over the next few days and transition him to a diet that will reduce the number of allergens he has been ingesting.

We will have a foster update in a few days once he has settled in.
