The Boys Are Adopted - February 9, 2008

Morty and Diefenbaker has been adopted together by a couple of guys who are going to shower them with love and kindness. They report that the drive back home was peacful and they settled right into their new home. Thanks to fosters Brian and Joe for taking such great care of Morty and Dief's.

A Pair of Luv Pugs

Morty is the 5 1/2 year old black male pug and Diefenbaker the 3 1/2 year old fawn male pug. Both are neutered, up to date on their vaccinations, micro chipped and ready to go. We are going to go the extra mile here and adopt them out together. They really belong with each other and with that special someone who will make the commitment to provide a loving and caring home.

Because we want these two loving boys to be adopted together, we are opening up our application process to any new applicant who wants to provide them with a loving home. If you haven't filled out an application but would like to adopt Morty and Dief, then click here to complete an app.

Their foster parents report:

"The guys are doing just fine. They have seemed to adapt pretty well and are doing pretty good meeting new dogs (not so good with cats though).

We would like to see them placed with someone who will be able to take good care of them or a family since we think they would be good for a family with children. Of course the ideal situation would be with someone with a house and some land or a backyard. We would want to make sure that the person(s) adopting would be a good fit (not working too many hours, able to take them on walks, out for pee and poo, etc).

Just a couple observations: they do seem to like the outdoors but not the cold or rain and we don't think they would hurt a fly.
As for diet they are continuing on the diet food and seem to be doing well. Dief has been doing better and looking more fit."

Foster Update - January 1, 08

Morty and Diefenbaker are accustomed to the apartment and surroundings now and are getting along just fine here. We have had so many complements from others living in our complex as well as those around the neighbourhood. We are slowly integrating them with other animals around the area. They seem to be doing pretty good. Morty is the more aggressive one checking out the other animals. He gets really excited too.

I introduced them to our friends' dog and cats. I don't think they quite knew what to make of the cats. They (cats) were staying back as they didn't know what to make of two new dogs in their home! :-) All in all they all seemed to get along just fine and settle down as the night went on.

I just gave them a bath today and they look very nice with their shiny coats. They look so nice when freshly bathed. They are doing well with their eating as well. Dief is losing weight and moving around much better. He doesn't breath as heavy as he did when he first arrived. He is able to jump up on the couch more easily and also will now jump in bed. He climbs the stairs quite nicely too. We had to carry him up when he first arrived. Morty is the more outgoing of the two. He is always the first to make contact with other dogs.

They both love people especially the ones that visit on a regular basis. They are both like velcro as well. They follow Joe and I around no matter where we go. If either one of us gets off the couch or out of a chair, they are close at hand.

So far...they are doing just great...healthy and active.

Foster Update - November 25

It was an OK night. I'm not used to animals in bed with me so it was a bit different. They were good in bed though. I have to get used of Dief's heavy panting and breathing. They stayed with us from about 11PM until they started getting antsy around 5:50AM. SO...we both got up and headed out for poo and pee. They both did poo and pee which I was pleased.

We gave them a bath this morning. They actually did VERY well. Both behaved find and didn't squirm to get out of the tub. We bought some shampoo from our local pet store and used that. We are going to get some doggie deodorant today just to make them smell better. Right now they are drying out yet. I think we are getting a small blow dryer so we can dry them right away after bathing. We also cleaned around the folds around the nose area.

It is obvious that they will have to be adopted together as we have watched them the last day and 1/2. It is even more obvious today. They both licked each others ears and face. It was so cute. Plus they played as well.

We will continue to feed them the reduced cal food and also try veggies and fruits. We took them yesterday for coffee with us and they both walked. I did end up carrying Dief some of the way there and some of the way back. He did OK though. I think he needs to get out and walk more. We will keep up the exercise and he'll do better.
