Adopter's Happy Tail - May 11

I'm in love!!!! Things have been great so far. Just love him to death! Three good walks yesterday. He was exhausted by last night. Today is his first day being left at home for a few hours without me but he does have his big lab sisters to keep him company. He starts with the dog walkers today. They met and walked with him yesterday with me there as well. Had his nails trimmed at the groomers and she said he was the calmest pug she had ever trimmed. I guess usually they can fuss quite a bit when getting nails done. I was so proud of my little man.

Pepe has settled in beautifully. Dog walkers say he is very well socialized and follows the pack. He is a joy to have in the house.

Requirements:

Pepe is a real gentleman. He is a big boy that loves everybody and likes to be near you. He is very happy, most of the time and does not have a mean bone in his body. Pepe sometimes tries to hump other dogs, but will stop if the other dog 'tells him to'. He has been given full run of the house and there have not been any issues with that. More often than not, when I come home, he will be asleep on the couch.

He came to us with a bladder infection, which we believe is a result of him not "going" as frequently as he should (particularly in wet weather), combined with a diet of poor quality kibble. The infection is gone, but there are still some crystals in his urine. The vet has recommended that he be put on a prescription diet for about 8 weeks, to see if this helps "flush" the crystals out. If all is clear, at that time, his new family can explore one of our approved foods. He would probably do well on a raw diet too. After 8 weeks on the new diet he would need to have a urinalysis done to ensure that there are no more crystals. A worse case scenario would have him on a prescription diet for life. He will need to be taken out on a regular basis.

Pepe rarely barks and has no trouble with stairs, so would be fine in a townhouse or other attached dwelling.

Pepe LOVES to go for walks and enjoys meeting all new people and all new dogs. He likes to go for rides in the car. He prefers a seatbelt, but will ride in a crate. He is very happy to be with his people and does not necessarily need to be on you all of the time. He does however really enjoy being cuddled and loved.

He does well with small children, but likes to steal Barbie shoes and marbles. Pepe likes soiled diapers very much, so a family with all members "toilet trained" would be preferred. Pepe came to us at 14.2 kg. and is now down to 12.2. He could probably loose a little more and build muscle.

Foster Update - Feb 18

Pepe came to us with a bladder infection. He has been on Clavamox for over a week and is doing quite well. We also discovered that he is only 5 1/2 year sold. For the first few days, Pepe did not settle during the day, choosing to follow me around the house. By Friday the 13th (PA day here), he decided that it was much more fun to sit on the couch with the kids than expend energy supervising my mundane chores.

With today's grey skies and drizzle, Pepe has taken to the couch. As you can see from the uncurled tail and lack of interest in me taking his picture, he has settled right in.

Foster Report - Feb 8

Pepi arrived yesterday and has adjusted very well. This six year old (we think) is a big boy at 31lbs, but he is tall with a large build. Pepi is extremely friendly and gets along with everyone. He is always underfoot wanting to be near you. He walks nicely on a lead and aside from some initial marking, is housebroken.

Introduction Feb 7

Pepi is an affectionate pug that was surrendered by his owner due to allergies that Pepe developed. We have his vet records and are working on a diet change to begin with.

The transport volunteer reported he was very sociable and slathered her with kisses. He settled quietly into his new foster home greeting the other pugs and family members, enjoyed his walk and had a good night's sleep
