360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
The time has come for Miss Dixie to move on to her fur-ever home. It has been a pleasure to have this spunky senior in our home.
Dixie does have a significant collapsing trachea, so she must use a harness. An air-conditioned home is a must. During extreme hot or cold spells she should be outside just long enough to get her business done.
Dixie has lost a little weight while in rescue but continued work in this area is a must.
On nice weather days she loves to be outside in the backyard with her people. She would do well in a house with a fenced yard as walking through an apartment complex would cause her to bark at all people and dogs she meets. When at the vet clinic or at the pet store she barks at everyone as if to say, "I have arrived and I am announcing my presence to all" This behaviour does stop when she is distracted with treats but continues when the treats go away.
Given Dixie's age, kids over 12 are best. We don't have cats so how she would react is unknown. She's fine with other dogs but young rambunctious in your face dogs are not to her liking. Any dogs that sniff her personal area will be told very clearly that is very rude in Dixie's opinion.
Dixie could do a 6hr day alone but given her age a quick trip out at lunchtime would be best. Dixie has had been accident free in our home.
She sleeps in her own dog bed beside the big bed at night. She does get out of bed at night and sleeps on the floor if it's hot, then gets back in her bed when she cools down.
This spunky, sassy senior has a very quirky and silly personality. We call her Mrs. Wigglesworth as she does the cutest wiggle butt move when it's meal or treat time, mixed with a few adorable head tilts.
Dixie continues to be a spunky senior. She's also known as Mrs. Wigglesworth, due to her cute little butt wiggle when it's meal or treat time. She has completely recovered from her dental appointment and her gums have healed nicely. We are waiting for a date for her elongated soft pallet surgery. Once that is done and she's recovered she'll be ready to find her forever home. Until then we'll be entertained by Dixie's funny little quirks.
Miss Dixie will not be participating in Shark Week, as she had all her teeth removed. They were in very bad shape, and her gums were also in bad condition, which made closing the surgery sites quite difficult. On Friday night we took Dixie to the Emergency Clinic. She was very disoriented, her breathing was very labored, and her mouth was oozing blood from both sides. When we arrived at the clinic Dixie was immediately admitted. The vets gave something to calm her down. They x-rayed her chest to make sure her lungs were clear. The x-rays results were good, so we headed back home. She has been feeling much better and is steadily improving. She is enjoying her bed even while we're out on the deck. Her happy go lucky personality is returning as she feels better.
A week ago this spunky senior arrived at our home. Meet Dixie, a 10-year-old happy girl. We went to the vet for her first check up and blood work, as well as a fecal sample check. Dixie passed all these tests with flying colours, however, we discovered that Dixie needs extensive dental work. During this procedure she will also have a couple of skin tags removed. Miss Dixie is handling everything in stride. We noticed her funny and charming personality immediately. This super senior is a pleasure to have in our home.
