Happy Tails, July 17, 2016

Gogi affectionately known now as Moji (Emoji) has been such a wonderful addition to our little family.

Although he was a little nervous in the car on the way home, as soon as we arrived ... I think he knew he was finally home. Our female almost 4 year old black pug greeted her little brother with open paws. By day two, they were already snuggling together and now they get along like peas and carrots.

I've read many other happy tails where there was some time required to adjust to their new surroundings, but with Moji it has felt like he was always here. I'm still so amazed that we have had no accidents in the house.

Moji has done exceedingly well at doggy daycare. He loved meeting and playing with all the dogs, but he never let his fur-sister out of his sight. I can't even say "daycare" unless I want chaos and happy whining and barking!

I'm also happy to report Moji loves car rides now and will stand on his hind legs as we walk by cars trying to peer in. I always have to tell him, "that's not our car!!" He's quite the character ... and so affectionate. When excited he can head butt you but I've learned that he will get a little glimmer in his eye when he's about to do it so I can prepare!

What else can I say about Moji? We both just love him so much. I guess you could say our family is now complete.

Home Visit Scheduled

Gogi is a sweet 3 year old pug mix whose favorite activity is playing with his foster siblings. He is also a wonderful companion for humans. Gogi loves to go for walks and have lap snuggles. He is very polite on-leash and his recall is fantastic off-leash (off-leash in a yard or dog park).

Gogi will growl or run away if people try to take high value food items from him. However, it is very manageable and modifiable. He will readily trade these items with people for treats, and would need to be separated or closely watched with these items when around other dogs.

Gogi was quite a bad marker when he first arrived but this issue is now resolved. However, it's not uncommon to expect some marking with any new dog the first week or so in a new home.

Gogi's play style is boisterous, bouncy, and often demanding - he doesn't always take no for an answer. Therefore, any dog sibling would need to be able to set some ground rules for play. Presently, Gogi and one of his foster brothers may play for hours a day. This is Gogi's specialty and his foster siblings will miss it. He definitely needs a home with other dogs.

Gogi has the rare quality of being a snow-pug - he'll happily go out all winter long. He is also pretty much the definition of a sweet and happy dog.

Foster Update, March 17, 2016

Gogi's neutering went really well and it's made a huuuuuge difference in his marking - hurray! We've only had one or two mishaps since the big day. He will be getting his last vaccine next week, thus, completing his vetting plan. He's still a squirmy worm during vet exams, but enjoys all the attention in the waiting room.

Gogi remains a playing machine. Henry is pretty sure Gogi doesn't know the meaning of the word "break." Any future fur siblings will have to set some play rules with this guy or they will get worn out quickly. He just loves other dogs and playing so so much.

Gogi loves going on walks and running through the parks. His recall is great and he's quite polite both on and off leash. Although he was fantastic in the snow, the "spring showers" have shown that Gogi is not nearly as fond of getting his feet wet when water is in its liquid form. He sometimes needs a bit of prodding to go outside if it's a particularly soggy day.

Gogi is a bouncy boy and an attempted kiss sometimes results in a headbutt. Since arriving, we've seen some decrease in his over enthusiastic displays of affection, but we still get a "bonk" from time to time. Overall, Gogi is a very sweet and loving guy, who prefers my lap to all dog beds and pieces of furniture in the house. He will definitely be missed around here when he finds his forever family.

Foster Update, February 17, 2016

Gogi is now up to date on his rabies vaccination and is getting neutered and microchipped on February 23rd. Knowing Gogi, he is looking forward to all the attention that he'll get at the vet's.

After four weeks in foster care, Gogi is still a non-stop play machine. When he wears out one foster brother, he just moves onto the next. He sometimes bounces a little too much into their faces, which earns him a snap or snark from time to time. He is also definitely a snow pug. Even in the super cold temperatures, he is okay about going outside (unlike some pugs we know around here).

Unfortunately, marking is still an issue. We now have double the trouble because former Pugalug pug, Henry, is now marking too. I'm hopeful that the neutering will make a big difference with this issue. Also, after his surgery, we'll begin a 3 week housetraining plan in a solid effort to end the marking once and for all.

Gogi is a very sweet, loving, and vocal guy. I always know when he's rolling around on the couch because I can hear his happy noises across the house. He also uses his voice when his attempts at play are ignored by the others. Gogi can be barky when the doorbell rings or if he hears a strange noise, but overall, he's more of a chatty boy. I love hearing all his joyful sounds.

Introduction, January 24, 2016

Gogi is an adorable 3 year old pug/beagle mix. He's been here a week and has settled in amazingly well. He seems to love all dogs and humans, and even tried to make friends with a cat today. In fact, it's pretty much been a non-stop playfest with his foster brothers since day three. He never gets mad at them (even when they're being jerky) and is thrilled to play any of their games.

Gogi sleeps in the bed and prefers to be under the covers or snuggled up against me. He has quite thick fur so is remarkably happy being walked in the cold weather -- that must be the beagle part of him.

Although Gogi started off as quite a marker, that behaviour is slowing down. He will be getting neutered in three weeks, which should also make things better in the marking department. A switch to a grain-free/chicken-free food has made a difference to his skin and ears, which were definitely showing signs of allergies when he arrived.

Gogi had his initial wellness exam today and overall, he is a healthy boy. The vet did notice a bit of luxating in his patella, which could potentially be an issue in his future. His teeth will also need to be monitored as there was some plaque buildup. Gogi was squirmy, but everybody loved him and he loved everybody. He is just such a sweet and happy boy!
