Hermione is doing really well. As I write this update, she is currently sitting on the couch with her pug sister and I. She fits in our home like a glove and it feels like she has always been here. Hermione clearly knows that she is in her forever home now too because she has become a total little boss of everyone. She has a large toy box that she likes to distribute through the house every day and gets very annoyed with me when I put her toys away at night. At the moment, we are trying to save Hermione's left eye as she has a corneal ulcer, but she takes it all in stride as always.
We are so very lucky to have Hermione in our home. She is truly a doll and we just love her to pieces!
It's been quite an interesting couple of months since Hermione was first introduced. First off, we have some very happy news! The oncologist was able to get clean margins when removing the mass and Hermione is now cancer-free! As with any cancer, she will need to watched for any recurrence, but her chances of that happening are consider quite low.
Once she was in the clear, Hermione had her "regular" vetting done (fecal, blood work etc). It came as no surprise that the vet declared her officially adorable! It was also noted that Hermione's weight was good - she's thin, but nothing concerning. She does have some tartar build up on her teeth, which are quite square due to chewing on very hard treats (e.g. greenies, bones etc). Neither issue is a problem at the moment though. The most problematic issues at the moment are her 'piggish' eyes (which she has managed to irritated at least once in recent months) and a possible heart murmur. We are investigating the latter issue further, but generally low-grade heart murmurs are benign.
Last, but not least, Hermione has made such an impression on her foster family that they have decided she needs to stay. Thus, Hermione was officially adopted on September 8th! Be sure to watch for her Happy Tails in the near future!
Hermione is an approximately 4 year old, female, Pug and Boston Terrier mix. She is brindle with a pug's head and a boston terrier's body. Although she originally came into an area shelter as a stray, Hermione has been enjoying her time with us over the past two weeks. It's as though she was meant to live life as a queen all along.
It is also clear that Hermione loves being part of a family! She loves small children, women, men and other furry creatures equally. Hermione is a very quiet girl who loves to spend her time getting cuddles from as many people as possible. She is also a dream on a leash and seems to be completely housebroken.
The first couple of days in Pugalug were quite busy for Hermione. When she arrived, she had a large mammary tumour that the rescue decided needed to be removed immediately. Thus, as she was trying to adjust to a new home, Hermione was also spending her time visiting the vet for pre-operative care. It's been almost a week since the mass was successfully removed and Hermione was spayed and she is recovering phenomenally well. It is obvious that she is so much more comfortable now and loves to spend time finding new positions to lie in that were likely not possible for her in the past.
For now, as we wait for the test results to come back on the mass, we are thinking happy thoughts and enjoying the gift of being able to care for such a lovely little girl.
