My foster mom and dad adopted me in March of 2016 after being in Pugalug for only six weeks. They say I stole their hearts from the moment we met.
I am looking great and feelin' fit after losing a total of 9 1/2 pounds. Now I can go for walks and go up and down stairs without too much difficulty. I get plenty of exercise by following mom and dad around the house. However, I still love my food! When its time to eat, I let mom and dad know by rubbing up against their legs or by barking softly. For snacks, I mostly get cucumber, which I can't get enough of, and blueberries. Yum! Life is good!
I have adapted well to my new life and new family, and am quite comfortable in my new home. I have made pug friends in the neighbourhood and have met most of my cousins. I like sleeping in the big bed with my aunt and uncle and my five cousins. I have lots of fun when I am there.
I'm still not a cuddle bug, but I do look forward to my nightly belly rub. I sleep in my own bed and mom made me a blanket that she wraps me in at bedtime so I do not get cold from the air conditioning. I let mom and dad know how much I have come to love them by always being close by and giving them occasional kisses.
Even though my knees act up sometimes and I still have issues with my ears all in all, I am a healthy, happy, slim, senior guy, who looks forward to many years in my new forever home.
Always,
Handsome Humphrey
Hi, it's me, Humphrey! I have been with my foster parents a month now. Things are going great. I have adjusted to my new home and I interact with my foster parents more and more each day.
My foster mom and I have been working very hard with my weight loss program and I am pleased to tell you that I am now a skinny 28 pounds. Yay for me! The program is working quite well and I will continue on it until I reach my goal weight. I am enjoying my kibble and only get certain human food for snacks, like carrots and cucumbers. My foster mom is going to take me swimming to help me speed up the weight loss process. I don't care much for the treadmill, but then again I'm not a big fan of going outside when it's cold or raining. But what pug does?!
I had my dental surgery yesterday and the vet removed 11 teeth, but I still have my chewing teeth which are the important ones and I still have my unique smile of course! The vet also checked a lump that I have on my belly and it is only fatty tissue. Nothing to worry about. I will be resting for the next couple of days and then I will be back to my normal self in no time. Oh, forgot to mention that I got microchipped too so if I get lost, anyone who finds me can contact my owners.
I am fully house trained and have had no accidents. I let my foster mom know by rubbing against her legs, sitting by the door or I will bark softly. I walk well on a leash, no pulling, and stay close by your side until I need to find the perfect spot to do my business.
I'm not a cuddle bug, but I do like belly rubs. I like sleeping in my own big bed in the same room as my foster parents. It makes me feel secure.
I don't mind being alone for a couple of hours. All I do is sleep in my bed while my foster parents are out anyways. If they can, they take me with them, which is nice because I like riding in the car. I usually sit in the back seat, but my preference is the front passenger seat. I can see more that way.
I had a meet and greet with a couple of girl pugs and it went very well. I don't mind older dogs, but puppies are too much for me. I also on't care for toys, and I don't play ball. Instead, I like short walks, lying in the sun and naps.
I will keep you up to date on my weight loss journey.
Here is a picture of me with my new smile.
Humphrey is a 9 1/2 year old fawn male pug who arrived about a week ago. At first, he was quite scared and confused by his new surroundings and family, so much so that he wouldn't even let us pet him. Fortunately, it didn't take him long to settle in and he now eagerly hangs out with his new foster family, especially if they're giving out belly rubs! However, when it comes to bedtime, Humphrey is a very independent guy. He prefers to sleep in his own big bed so he has plenty of room to stretch out and move around. At this point, he does not want to snuggle with anyone in his foster family (at bedtime or otherwise), but things might change as he gets to know us better. Even with all the changes, Humphrey has done well with letting us know when he wants out. He realized where the door was quite quickly and will softly cry and/or sit by the door to let everyone know he needs to go. Since he joined us, we have been taking him out four times a day.
Humphrey is a very handsome fella. He was born with a small lip deformity which is of no bother to him and gives him a unique smile that makes him even more adorable! Humphrey does have a bit of a weight problem though and is a solid 30 lbs. We worked with the vet to develop a strict calorie intake program so he can slowly lose the excess weight in a healthy way. Our goal is to have him lose 10 lbs. Although we worked hard to find him food that allows him to feel full while also limiting his calories, Humphrey is not a fan. Having been fed human food in his previous home (his favourite being hotdogs), he is struggling to eat only kibble. However, the diet is still in its early stages so I'm sure he will adjust and eventually come to realize that kibble can be just as yummy!!
Like any good weight loss program, Humphrey's also includes exercise. We have started teaching him to walk on our home treadmill and are looking into water therapy. He does have some issues with stairs due to some hind end weakness. We are hoping that the exercise will help to strengthen his muscles and reduce or resolve this issue. Obviously, the weight loss with help by reducing how much his body has to life going up each step. We will weigh Humphrey in a month to see whether or not Humphrey has lost weight. We will be sure to keep everyone updated on his progress!
Overall, Humphrey is a sweet, gentle man and it is a pleasure to foster him.
