360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
Lydia has had a very eventful April. Not only did she turn 11 years old, Lydia went to the vet and had 11 teeth removed. Many of the teeth were large and rotten so Lydia was generally happy to say goodbye to them. Her kisses are now as sweet as she is. While Lydia was at the vet having her teeth done, she also had a worrisome lump examined (and it's no longer worrisome) and a growth on her back removed. Lydia hit her target weight-loss goal and is happy to report that she is 0.7kg lighter than she was at her last visit.
Lydia has been with us for two months now. Five days after Lydia's arrival, we welcomed a new pug member to our family named Mouse. From the minute Mouse arrived, Lydia was hooked. The two of them are never more than a foot away from each other. When they are not side by side, Lydia lovingly watches over Mouse. These two are inseparable. In fact, we made sure that they went to the vet together (Mouse had her spay while Lydia was having her teeth done) so that neither had to go it alone.
So, perhaps it comes as no surprise that we cannot bare to let this little lady leave. As such, we are ecstatic to be adopting Lydia into our family. She walked through the door and stole all our hearts. And when Mouse walked in the door, she stole Lydia's. Our happy little family is a lot happier today!
Meet Lydia! She is a 10-year-old that came into the rescue as an owner surrender. She's been with us for just over a week and it's been an absolute joy to have her.
Although Lydia may look like she's 10, with her beautiful greying face, she sure doesn't act it like it. Lydia runs and jumps and plays like a youngster. In fact, she keeps up with all the foster siblings in the house like a champ (one of her foster siblings might even say she gets a little pesty with her need for play). Wonderfully, Lydia settles quietly in the car for long drives. And did I mention that she's about the sweetest girl in town? Lydia will happily snuggle and give kisses to everyone she meets. We know it's still early and we're slowly getting to see bits of her true personality pop out, but so far we love them all.
Lydia has already gone to the vet for a complete physical and wellness exam. Overall, Lydia is very healthy for an almost 11-year-old pug. However, her teeth need a good cleaning and she's got ear and fold infections that are being tended to. She also has a few lumps and bumps, is a little wobbly in her hind end (slight ataxia), and has some corneal pigmentation (keratopathy) in her eyes, but nothing too unexpected for a senior pug. We did learn one thing at the vet, which was a bit of a surprise -- Lydia doesn't like cats. She certainly would have given chase if she hadn't been on a leash. Lydia is feisty :-)
While Lydia is an active girl that enjoys her play and walks, she also relishes her sleep. Lydia seems to have found the perfect balance between both. She is just a wonderful girl!
