360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
We are so thrilled that we get to add this wonderful guy to our family!!! It became clear that Morgan (now Logan) was part of this family shortly after he walked through the door. We instantly fell for this busy little ball of sweetness and he immediately became Henry's shadow. We could not imagine taking him away from his new, favorite thing in the world - his brother.
Now that Logan's eyes and legs (he had his hind dewclaws removed) are healed, and his cones are off, Wrestlemania has pretty much become a full-time event around here. Hulk Logan and Henry 'the One-eyed Marvel' only take breaks for refueling with a combination of food and naps. However, they always make sure to schedule time for group snuggles with their big, older brother. Nothing is better than seeing the pug pile of cuteness that develops every evening.

Morgan is doing great. He and former Pugalug alumni, Henry, have become inseparable. They play non-stop and when they need a break, they are usually rolled up in a ball together alone or with their other pug brother. It is too too cute!!!
Morgan is getting fixed and having those pesky hind dewclaws removed next week. His eyes are looking good - the claw caps really did the trick for preventing further injury. However, it will be a relief to have the dewclaws removed so it's not a constant worry.
We'll be starting some basic training when Morgan recovers from his neutering and dewclaw removal. In addition to being sweet and affectionate, he is also very smart so I know he'll enjoy it. I can't wait to show him off in classes!
The cold weather is still making house training tricky, but overall, he is doing really well. In fact, he is often doing better than Henry who has been on "going outside to do his business" strike. Spring cannot come soon enough!!!!
Morgan seems to be adjusting very well, so far. His foster brothers quite like him, but are not as thrilled about his cone...especially when it's headed straight for their faces. His one foster brother, Henry, is a former Pugalug pug so he's been showing him the ins and outs of foster life. However, Morgan has made himself right at home in my lap, much to Henry's chagrin, but in true pug fashion, Henry has now figured out how to squeeze onto my lap with him. Now if the two of them aren't playing together or exploring, they're headed for the lap!
House training is going pretty well. Morgan has managed to do most of his peeing outdoors and makes it through the night. However, pooping outside has been a 50/50 activity. Not too bad, really, considering the wintery weather.
Overall, he is an incredibly sweet and affectionate little guy and charms everyone he meets!!! I love him!!!
The 7-lb dynamo that is Morgan is doing really well. The corneal ulcer in his left (good) eye has now healed and we are searching for ways to protect his eyes until he has his hind dewclaws removed during his neuter surgery mid-February. We tried a soft cone, which was too heavy for him. We tried wrapping his hind dewclaws with vet tape, but he managed to remove this in record time. We contemplated rubber nail caps, but they aren't really designed for the shape of dewclaws. Currently, we are trying doggie goggles, which make him look like Elton John, but seem to be working so far. However, we suspect that other dogs he plays with may try to take them off him and scratch his eyes so he will be heavily supervised while wearing them.
Morgan is a very social and affectionate dog who loves to play -- non-stop. Having been an only dog for the last few weeks, as a puppy he needs more socialization so he will be going to a new foster home next week where he will have a play companion and where his potty training will be worked on. In the meantime, he will be going for a return visit to the eye specialist he originally saw to get an assessment of his current eye situation and the prognosis for his future.
More great news for Morgan! The cone is OFF and he went wild - running, jumping, bumping into furniture, throwing toys, yelling at toys, barking, nipping etc. He was a bit of a whirling dervish. I was tired just watching him!! Of course, if he starts to scratch his eye then we will have to put the cone back on, which I'm sure he will not like. Overall, the eye is looking very good. There is still some inflammation so we will finish off what is left of the anti-inflammatory medication and hopefully that will resolve it. He now weighs in at a whooping 7 pounds! I will still give him 3 meals a day, but will reduce the amount so that he does not continue to gain so much. As to be expected, he's not a huge fan of the vet's. He had a bit of a temper tantrum at this morning's visit, but she did try to trim his nails - something pugs notoriously despise. And he squeals like a pig, which is quite loud, but pretty hilarious! He's a crazy pup and will need lots of positive training, but he's 100% adorable and loving, which makes everything all worthwhile!
He'll be going in for another eye re-check on December 17th and he'll receive his rabies vaccination at that time.
Great news today! Morgan's right eye has improved greatly since coming into foster care. He no longer requires eye drops in his right eye for his corneal ulcer, but must continue to wear his cone for at least another week and requires a daily anti-inflammatory pill to continue to reduce the swelling. At this time, his vision is still questionable. He has beautiful, large, protruding eyes, which will require protection to prevent future eye injuries. We may work on getting him used to wear goggles for protection once he no longer as to wear the cone.
Morgan is a happy little guy who enjoys playing with his toys and eating. He loves to snuggle and wants to follow you everywhere in true shadow pug fashion. He is very smart and has learned to sit when asked and comes when called. Morgan goes to bed between 10-11PM and sleeps until morning as long as we've taken him out right before bed. He presently sleeps in his dog bed with blankets and a toy, which we have placed in a playpen beside our bed. He seems to like that set up and it protects him and keeps him from wandering.
He has a thin coat and feels the cold, which of course means that he does not like to go outside. We're trying to get our hands on a warm snowsuit with attached booties. It'll be interesting to see what he thinks of that (haha!) Potty training outside on the warmer days have been successful, but training on pee pads is not going so well. It's a work in progress, but we're sure that he'll get the hang of it with some structure and routine.
Morgan does have quite the temper and is not afraid to let you know when he is mad. He can be very verbal at times and has a bad habit of biting and scratching - nothing out of the ordinary for a young puppy and we're working on teaching him more appropriate behaviours. We suspect that the cone has a lot to do with his frustrations and he'll calm down once he can go cone-free. Due to his age, he would do best in a house with older children, but he has been around other dogs and plays well with them.
Overall, Morgan is just a cutie pie who will steal your heart and will make a most wonderful, loving pet for one special family!
Morgan came into our care on Tuesday evening. He was born August 8th 2014, which makes him only 3 1/2 months old. He is a happy little guy who like cuddles and kisses. Unfortunately, he came to us with a serious corneal ulcer on his right eye. He was assessed at the emergency vet in Toronto, where he was also surrendered to Pugalug. The specialist determined that Morgan will be able to keep the eye, but it's still unclear as to whether or not he'll have vision. Our own vet will be monitoring him going forward and he's already been in to see her. He is now settled into our home and receiving medicated eye drops daily. He isn't a huge fan of the eye drops, but he tolerates them. However, Nor is he is a fan of the cone that he has to wear to avoid further damage. He's teething and struggles to chew on toys because the cone gets in the way.
Morgan weighs about 5 lbs and has a very light fur coat, which means that he tends to get cold quite quickly. We did try to put a coat on him and take him for a short walk, but he wanted nothing to do with it. We are also working on housebreaking, of course. Morgan does have access to pee pads, although he hasn't quite figured out that he's supposed to pee on them and not the floor, but we'll get there! He is a very smart pup! He already understands "sit" and will consistently do so when asked. He also knows his name and comes when called .... most of the time.
