Happy Tails, August 3, 2016

As Oakley settled in, it was just obvious that he was here to stay. He is full of pug personality and when he looks up at you with those eyes, it just melts your heart. He has lots of spunk for his age and is very good at letting his needs to be known. He settled right into a routine and made himself right at home. We are happy to welcome Oakley to the family and couldn't imagine him being anywhere else.

Adopted, July 13, 2016

Oakley has been adopted by his foster parents!

Foster Update, June 22, 2016

Oakley has settled right into his new foster family. He loves being around his foster brothers and generally enjoys the company of all his canine companions. Of course, in true pug fashion, Oakley follows me everywhere and if he can't (e.g if I'm upstairs for a minute or two), he starts to whine and bark, telling me "I'm here, where are you?" He is not that keen on cuddling, but will now ask to sit on a lap for a few minutes here and there. He loves his dog bed and is quite content to relax there as long as you are nearby. In fact, he loves being in a bed so much, we bought him two new ones so there is one everywhere he goes. We have noticed that Oakley has an occasional limp when he first gets up after a nap, but who doesn't at his age!

Oakley is very good at letting his desires be known. For instance, if it gets a bit hot in the backyard and he wants inside, he will go to the back door and bark. If you are a bit later than usual for dinner, he wants an explanation. If someone has food, he can smell it a mile away and will give a little bark to say, "Hey, are you going to share?" He also knows exactly where the liver treats are hidden at work and makes a beeline straight for them the minute we arrive in the morning.

Oakley developed a cough since his last update so he had another visit with the vet to check that out. Fortunately, neither the vet exam nor the x-ray showed anything serious and both the vet and myself felt comfortable scheduling his dental surgery for July 7. Obviously we will keep an eye on his cough and reevaluate things if it worsens. Oakley's weight is still right at 23 pounds so we're feeding him a little less food with each meal, which has upset him greatly and he tells us so!

Surprisingly, Oakley is amazingly tolerant of being groomed. He had a bath recently and he was perfect! No fussing at all! His nose tends to get a bit dry so we've been putting a bit of Vitamin E oil on it. Oakley doesn't mind that one bit...as long as he doesn't have to see the bottle! We need to clean Oakley's wrinkles quite regularly and he is accepting of that too. It's just those darn ear cleanings that he can't stand, but we are working on that.

Oakley is a true sweetheart and just a joy to have around! There's no doubt that he will make his new family so very happy!

Oakley

Introduction, May 20

Oakley is an 11.5 year old male who came to Pugalug on May 7 as the result of changes in his owner's health. He is a mellow older gentleman and his "go with the flow" attitude has allowed him to easily settle into his new routine. Oakley loves to be included in everything and happily follows his foster brothers around, making sure nothing is missed. Oakley is also happy to join me at work each day and has been loving all the attention that he receives while there. He has no issues when it comes to meeting new people either and does especially well with children.

Like a typical pug, Oakley loves dinner time and will let out a bark to tell you when he is hungry and wants to eat. However, he does weigh in at 23lbs so he could stand to lose a little bit. We will work on this issue going forward. Fortunately, Oakley is quite playful and has the most adorable little jump to him when trying to get someone's attention. He also enjoys going for walks and gets very excited when he sees his harness and leash. Although he can't walk quite as far as his younger foster brothers, Oakley does well for a senior. He just trots along with them the best he can, his tongue always hanging out to the left. He does need assistance when it comes to stairs and can only do 3-4 on his own, but this is to be expected for a gentleman of his age.

In general, Oakley is in quite good health. During his vet visit, the vet did note some some age-related vision loss in Oakley's right eye, but it doesn't hold him back one bit! Unlike many pugs, Oakley has no problem letting us cut his nails, but his ears are another story! In fact, he hates having his ears cleaned so much that he will hide under chairs to prevent us from doing it. We were able to get them done though. It just took a bit of convincing!

All in all, Oakley is an adorable older gent, full of pug personality who just wants to find a forever family to follow around during his golden years. We are just lucky enough to share some time with him until then!
