Romeo's Happy Family Day Tale - February 16, 2008 We dropped Romeo off late this morning at Kerri, Matt and Caden's. Romeo greeted Kerri & Caden with wiggles and kisses then promptedly went to his new bed where a chew ring was awaiting him. He did not even notice us going. It was funny because after we left we decided to get some lunch on the Danforth. When we finished and were heading back to the car we ran into Kerri, Caden and Romeo out buying Romeo a new coat. Romeo at first trotted right by and even after Kerri and I spoke he initially ignored us. Then he finally realized who we were and I got a big kiss but he happily trotted away again. I think Romeo or "Womeo" as Caden calls him is going to be very happy with his new family who have been very excited about adopting him. Caden has been telling everyone at school he was getting a dog named "Womeo" and was almost, but not quite, as excited as Kerri I think. I am going to miss Romeo very much he is the best snuggler I have ever had - including my own! Romeo has the sweetest personality and will soon own the household wrapping everyone around his little paw. All the best to Romeo and his new family I am sure you will be very happy. |

Romeo Update - December 30 Romeo's blood work was great - all normal. His red cells were all mature and his hemoglobin was good at 138 with a low end of normal being 135. We are continuing efforts to boost him a bit more but he is scheduled to be neutered next Thursday Jan 3rd so good wishes for the oh so sweet Romeo would be appreciated. He is however the most stubborn little dog in terms of housebreaking I have ever seen. We are plugging away and there is some improvement. He has been tethered to either Dave or I now for 4 or 5 days has still had a couple of accidents but I think we are getting the message across. My niece and nephew were here overnight just before Christmas ( they are 6 & 7) and Romeo loved them to bits. The kids were constantly mobbed by pugs wanting kisses and cuddles and my niece kept saying she loved Romeo best of all. Romeo is extremely good with people. Romeo is not fond of other dogs trying to play with him, tug toys etc and can get aggressive. This behaviour is often found in older unneutered males who have been living with other unneutered males. The option of placing him with an older neutered male or female dog would be personality based not gender based in terms of the other dog. With people he is a very gentle snuggler who has really taken to cuddling up tight at night - loving to snuggle under your chin. He will happily lean against or sleep next to even young kids in the most gentle way. Romeo will continue to need patience in the housbreaking department and some care will be required for placement with other dogs but children are not a problem |

Foster Update - Dec 15 Romeo is doing very well. Housebreaking is still an issue but I hope to be able to really tackle it over Christmas when I am home for an extended time. Romeo next sees the vet on the 21st for more blood work to see if his anemia is better. He seems very healthly and is a happy pug. He eats very well, looks like he has put on a couple of pounds on and loves to play with people and to snuggle.Romeo will just lean into you and completely relaxes - for a minute of two then he is up and going again. He needs that cuddle and reassurance for a few minutes then he is good to go. He plays less well with the other dogs but mostly because he wants to play with YOU and does not want them to interfere with HIS time... Romeo is a real character. |
Foster Update - Nov 23 Romeo continues to be a very sweet, loving pug. He loves to snuggle and give lots of kisses. nfortunately, his blood work did not turn out as well as I hoped and it turns out the poor wee guy has anemia. This puts everything on hold as we work to build his blood and his strength up. Actually you would never guess anemia as he is active and loves his food! He is fairly thin however. He will be receiving a supplement to increase his iron intake. The cause of the anemia is under investigation and could be as simple as the food he was on before - a no name brand or a more complex issue. Romeo eats EVO (grain-free) mixed with a teaspoon of a high grade wet food - Merricks, evangers, wellness, california naturals etc. I mix up the brands and protein sources to keep the little guys healthy & interested. He loves treats - I have picked up a nice liver treat which should help his blood levels as well! Romeo is a marker and wears a belly band just like his former housemate - Basil. The housebreaking and the blood work, and stalling of the neuter, will keep Romeo in foster for a while yet. He is an easy, friendly pug to be around- I even took him down to the Royal where he greeted everyone - but was especially fond of the little people "trapped" in their strollers as they were easy kiss targets!!! LOL.. He is a character and loves to play and run |
Introduction - November 8 Romeo is a lovely approx. 2 yr old black pug. He is nicely slim and trim - helped along by his still puppyish exuberance! He has eaten well and after kind of a rough start sleeping in the big bed with my husband and I and the other pugs he settled in and slept well through the night. Romeo is intact and does mark. We will be working on that over the next while as right now its hard to tell if it is partly the newness and anxiety or if this is a habit. He is a gentle sweet boy so far, loves to jump up to give kisses, very affectionate. There has not yet been any signs of aggression with us or the other dogs. Romeo was showing definite submissive signs to Bugzy last night and this morning. He, Sophie and Bugzy had a few great Pugtonias around the backyard - especially he and Sophie. Romeo would run and she would give chase. He was happily digging in the toy box last night looking for chewies etc to knaw on. Romeo needs to learn a few house manners but all in all is shaping up to be a very nice little guy. He will "mouth" a bit - albeit quite gently but we'll work on that too. If this behaviour continues I expect he will be easy to adopt to a home with kids and/or dogs. |
