Adopter Update - July 19 Friday the 13th was my lucky day. It was lucky because that's the day Cathy Radeke drove Ruby a very long way in heavy traffic to meet me and eventually allow me to adopt this cute little pug. I can't thank Cathy enough for her kindness and willingness to help. It must have been hard for her to leave Ruby since I think Cathy had already fallen in love with her. And why not? Pardon my grammar, but there's nothing not to love. Ruby is perfect - not boringly perfect, but adorably perfect. I think her long, drooping tongue only adds to her charm.Ruby's first big outing was on Sunday to meet my grown children and their significant others. She made quite a hit with them! Then Ruby had her first trip to Ward's Island. She is so cute that at least 3 people took pictures of her on the ferry. We met Larry and some other friendly pug owners, Ruby got a smashing red raincoat from Duds for Dogs, and then we went on a garden tour of the island. Ruby had so many new and interesting smells to check out that she couldn't get enough. She has unbelievable energy! I was exhausted by the end of the day, but she kept going strong. On the way back on the ferry we met Ann and Noel, companions of Ike. Ruby and Ike, both with similiar tongues, could have been siblings and were so cute together. I saw someone candidly taking a picture of the tow of them together. Once safely seat belted back in the car, Ruby quickly fell sound asleep, finally tired out. It was such an enjoyable day and Ruby made it extra fun. Thank you, Cathy and Pug-a-Lug for sending her to me. I will take good care of her. |
The little jewel has been adopted - July 13 Ruby has found her forever home in Ajax Ontario. When Ruby and her foster mommy first arrived at Ruby's new home, Ruby immediately started sniffing around and making herself quite at home, by jumping up and cuddling on the couch with her new mommy, Susan.Ruby loves her new backyard and spent some time running around and then lounging on the deck, Ruby even met her new foster brother kitty Angelo. Susan had a brand new bed as well for Ruby which she tried out and she just looked adorable in her beautiful new red harness and leash, red is definitely her colour :) I have no doubt that our little Miss. Ruby is going to have a wonderful life with her new family and be spoiled as
she deserves. Thanks Susan and Angelo for so lovingly accepting Ruby into your home and as Susan says
"Ruby is just perfect!'. |

This darling girl is ready - July 9 |
My name is Ruby and I am looking for my forever home.
My foster mommy and daddy and foster brother Willy are going to miss me very much, but feel that I am
more than ready to move on.
I am a beautiful little girl, who loves lots of attention, so would like to move somewhere where I will not be alone for too long. I do not want to be crated and my foster parents say that I am very good when left alone in the house and just wait patiently for their return. I have never damaged anything in the house and I have never had any accidents. I am a very good girl. Sometimes I do bark though, so I would need a home where this will be okay. Once I am assured everything is okay, I calm down though. I love to snuggle with foster mommy, daddy and Willy. I love to play with all the toys and I have a funny little habit of when foster mommy is doing laundry of carrying away some of foster daddy's laundry to snuggle with. I attached and adjusted very quickly to my new home. I have no problems eating and love dry chicken breasts as treats. I am great with kids and other little dogs. I am still a bit afraid of larger dogs, but I am feeling better around them. I am a people oriented doggy and I love attention. I follow foster mommy and daddy everywhere. I love going for walks and I am great on a leash, sometimes I get a little fidgety when getting my harness on. I love to play, but I am also content to lay by your side or beside by my foster pug brother Willy. I have a little foster cat named Cinnamon and I am okay with her as well. If you think I would fit into your family and you can be my forever home, please send in your application. I cannot wait to share all my love and happiness with you too! Love Ruby |

Foster Update - July 6 Little Miss. Ruby is continuing to do really well!! She has been doing a little toe nipping, on my hubby only, but we redirect her with a toy and she is fine. She really loves him and I think is looking for attention :)) Yesterday we spent the day at my parents in Cambridge. She was great, no shaking or nervousness at all around the adults. In fact she curled up at/on my mom's feet several times and sat in her and my sister's lap for a long time:) She is such a lovable little girl. She met my parent's boxer for the first time, at first she was scared, but by the end of the day was sneaking up and sniffing him and then lying between him and Willy. As I mentioned in my earlier email she has been nervous/cautious of the few bigger dogs she has met, but is geting better. I think yesterday really helped and tommorow we are going to the Grand Opening of our Leash free in town!! She is still barking, but it is almost out of warning or apprehension of new things/noises. When comforted she settles down. |

Foster Update - July 4 Miss. Ruby just came back from the vet and was a shining star!!!! She did not like the heartworm test that much though :( But Dr. Footman was amazed how well she did considering she has not been at the vet for years. She received a glowing and clean bill of health :)) The doctor said that she is in perfect condition, her digestive and internals feel great, her teeth are great and clean, even under her tongue. Overall she is a very healthy Pug.I cannot say enough positive things about this little munchkin!! She weighs 20 lbs and is now also up to date on her shots. We held off on the microchipping as taking blood for her heartworm test freaked her out a bit. She definitely stays really close to us and has not tried running away. He checked out her tongue and besides pertruding it is fine. He suspects it is something neurological that makes it protude. He did show me how to put her tongue back in and hold her mouth in order to moisten it, if need be and she did not object at all. I also asked about her infrequent potty releases and he checked her out and said it should not be a worry. |
Ruby and Willy negotiating couch space |
Ruby is a quite a little "gem". The last couple of days she has been really playful,
running around and playing with Willy's toys. I was doing laundry and she was picking out some of my hubby's
pieces and cuddling with them. Then I remembered that Hilary you had said that you had thought that she had a
special blanket?? I gave her one of the babies blankets, but I guess it is just not the same :0 A couple of Willy's friends have come by to meet Ruby and she is a little afraid of the bigger dogs, but is great with Willy and a little Chihuahua up the street. She is still barking a bit but only when she sees a new person come to the door. As much as I hate to say it, I think she could be ready for her forever home soon. I will get the heartworm results back in a couple of days and start her on the Heartworm meds probably Monday next week. |

Foster Update - July 3 Ruby had a wonderful weekend!!! She adjusted very quickly to our family and is already so attached to my hubby Dirk, she even followed him into the Shower this morning :)) She is absolutely adorable (as you know Hilary) and is so smart. She went for several walks this weekend and was great on a leash. She sits and comes when she is called. She has been doing all of her business outside, but holds it for a long time. She let us know a couple of times she had to go, by running to the door. She has not had any accidents. She is eating really well! Ruby is great with Alexander, my little guy and with Willy too. She met my kitty Cinnamon last night and gave her a sniff, but was fine with her. She is just the perfect little girl and so loveable. Her tongue, although long, does not seem to bother her though, but she does drink a lot. I noticed that she tried to pull it in a couple of times. I will ask the vet to check it out, when we see him tomorrow.I will also ask about heartworm and micrchip as well. |

She loved going for a boat ride and running around at the cottage. She did bark a couple of times, but just when people came by to visit, but once reassured by us that everything was okay she stopped. I really do not see anything wrong with the dear little thing and she is the perfect companion. |

Ruby Introduction - June 28 |
Ruby was picked up today by volunteer Hilary and will be staying with her for a couple of days until the foster home is ready.
Hilary reports that Ruby was a little frightened at first when she first approached Ruby, but happily jumped into the car.
She settled right in enjoying the lasp, pats on the head and the occasional look around.
Ruby is getting along fine with Hilary's other pugs (Jake has taken a particular interest in Ruby - following her all around the house) We will have a report on her health after she visits the vet Hilary will wait until Ruby has calmed down and take some photos. She feels Ruby is going to be an energetic and affectionate pug. She is already wagging her tail when she gets a pat. |
