Seamus is adopted - June 1 Wee Seamus has found his perfect forever home. How many people would drive 4+ hours one way to pick up such a precious package and then 4+ hours back? Seamus' new Mommy would and did.Seamus has gone to live with Mommy Melissa and pug sisters Chloe (8) and Scarlett (9) in Sudbury. He took along his favorite old brown bone and his duck. I'll miss his sweet face but the smile on his new Mommy's face is worth it. |

Seamus Will Bring Laughter and Joy - April 29 Seamus is a sweet little man . He has really come around and loves to play with toys. He really enjoys his walks but is not a fast walker. He will need eye drops since he tends to sleep with his eyes open but he has full vision in both eyes. He is quite content to play by himself and is fully house broken. Once he learns the routine he will go to the door and let you know he wants out. He will run in circles and chase his tail if you touch it, it's quite amusing to watch. He will do well as an only or with another older mellow dog that doesn't expect him to play. Seamus will need to stay on a grain free diet to keep his skin issues in check. Because Seamus is deaf he can't be let off leash in places that aren't fenced. He's a little shadow and will come looking for you. He is fine crated at night but also very happy in the "big" bed. He will cuddle right up next to you and not move. Overall he's a great little guy. |
Life is good with green grass beneath my feet, sunshine and a nice bone to chew.

Foster Update - April 15 The vet visit went really well, he's gained almost a pound but still needs another one or two. He was healthy enough to get his vaccines so those are done. The cough is gone but they are concerned over his teeth. We picked up antibiotics that he will need to start 3 days before his dental. His teeth are not great and he will lose some. He is scheduled for his dental Monday April 28th and will get his microchip done then as well. They were very pleased with his overall health. His fur is nice and soft and thicker and his skin is great. His ear canals are also open even more than last visit. They couldn't believe it was the same old scruffy boy they first saw. >He even wagged his tail for them today and offered up kisses. I told them they may want to hold off until after the dental to accept them. He's really come a long way in the past week, he loves all the toys and spreads them out everywhere and even curls up on the couch with the gang. |

Foster Update - April 3 His cough has greatly improved and his energy level is way up. He still has 2 more pills and we'll wait and see if it comes back. He just yesterday showed an interest in toys. Got the stuffed squirrel out of the toy box and gave it a good shake. I would throw it and he'd run and get it. Hasn't figured out how to bring it back yet and I can't call him since he can't hear me.He knows when it's dinner time and continues to go to the door to ask to go out. He may not be as old as previously thought, he's got so much more energy now that he's feeling better. It's so hard to determine age with a gray face. Jed has tons of gray and is young where Pugsley will be 8 and is just starting to go gray. |

Foster Update - March 26 Seamus got another round of antibiotics for the upper respiratory problem and cough. They've put him on 10 days of Zeniquin and we hope this will do it. His ears aren't as inflamed and swollen but are still full of gunk that we need to get cleaned out. His hearing is non existant. After the meds are done we will wait another 10 days to see if it reoccurs and if it doesn't he can then get his vaccines and we can schedule his dental. His skin issue has greatly improved but he did lose a tiny bit of weight. I'm going to increase his food and cut back on his walks. They were very happy with his progress to date. He is a lot happier and less skittish and even the vet staff commented on how much happier and calmer he is from the last visits. He is getting stronger and stronger as he proved tonight. He ate around his pill that I hid in his dinner and trying to wrestle him and open his mouth was a chore. I thought I had him only to find the pill spit out and stuck to my shirt. LOL!! Finally wrapped it in cream cheese and he ate it. He's very smart!!! |

Foster Update - March 7 Seamus came to us from Mississaugha Animal Control where he was listed as a stray. There was no background information on him so his foster mom Kim is starting from he begnning:Got the senior bloodwork and heartworm testing done on him. He will need a dental somewhere down the road. Right now the concern is with his skin and ears. His ears aren't yeasty but there is some kind of bacteria growing in them. They've sent out a culture. The ear canals are so swollen they are almost closed so I have drops to open up the ear canals and other drops to treat the bacteria. His eyes have PK bad (which I knew just by looking), did a tear test and he is producing tears. Got some Hexadine to shampoo him with hoping to get rid of the bacteria on the skin. We go back next Friday to go over the culture results and make a plan from there. The vet estimates him at 8-9 years old also. Vaccines at this point aren't a priority and he said he wouldn't do them right now anyway. |
Foster Introduction - March 6 The poor old boy came with nothing, not even a name. From this day forward he shall be known as Seamus (pronounced Shay muss). I thought it fitting he be given a nice Irish name since it is close to St. Patty's day. It's Irish for James. He's very nervous and has taken to sitting under chairs and the kitchen table. He did have a good sleep in one of the
dog beds and refused his dinner. I tried both raw and kibble. It looks like he does have some PK in his eyes and
could stand a good bath, a very much needed nail trim and needs to put on some weight. |
