360 pugs rescued since October, 2005
Stuart (Stewie)
Tim, Janine and Stewie

Stuart is adopted, March 10, 2007

There were so many good hearted people that wanted to adopt Stewie it was a difficult choice for foster mom Kim. However he has now been warmly welcomed into the house of Tim and Janine. They were so excited about the home visit that Janine cancelled her weekend plans to have it on Saturday. The had losts of questions on his health and will be following up their research on allergies, food and the health conditions of pugs.

Stewie lived up to his part of the bargain by going outside to have a pee and wagging his tail at his new home and parents. There will be plenty of toys and playtime and maybe even another pug to play with in the future.

Thanks to Kim and the gang for letting Stewie invade their lives these last few weeks.

Tim goes to answer the phone and Stewie wonders "What's Up?"

Fostter update, March 6

Well he's been given the all clear by Dr. Dr. Zaharchuk of Derrydale Animal Hospital. He has received his last set of shots, his chest is clear and testicles are normal. Stewie will have to have is nares and palette checked periodically after adoption. He is up to 2.6kgs or 5.4 pounds. Little guy most certainly has grown.

He's really a smart little guy!! Knows his name, does his business putside and looks up at you with his little tail wagging knowing he did good. Below are pictures of him and Jed playing. I'm surprised how well they play, Jed seems to know he's only a baby and is really good with him. (Jed has been blind from birth) All my pugs have figured out when they've had enough they jump up on the couch. Stewie isn't big enough to get up there, but he gives it a good try.

Stuart can go as an only or with a younger, tolerant pug that will put up with his playing. He's quite happy to amuse himself with toys if no one will play.

A condition of adoption will be to provide proof of neutering and micro-chip

Foster Update, Feb 20

Kim has named him Stuart (Stewie), after Stuart Little. She reports:

The first night went surprisingly well. Put him in the crate around 11:30 after another pee, more so for mine to settle down than him. He settled down after a wee bit of whimpering and slept until 7:00 this morning. He ate breakfast with most likely his first taste of yogurt. No poops until after breakfast. I spotted him with a sudden burst of energy and quickly went out with him and mission accomplished. He's had no accidents other than the one where he peed on Jed's bed. He's initiating play with whoever will give him the time of day. He's leaving Gertie and Percy alone so far. They may just unpack their bags and stay.

He went for his vet checkup tonight. They aren't overly concerned about his chest, they said it didn't sound too bad so maybe these meds are kicking in. If he does get worse I am to take him back immediately and they'll try something else. He has no fever, temperature is normal. They checked his legs and said his knees are a tiny bit loose but aren't concerned about luxating patellas. He may need nares done though. Never noticed how tiny his nostrils were until they pointed it out. He may outgrow that also. He goes back in 2 weeks for his shots.

Introduction, Feb. 19, 2007

A little whirling dervish has descended on the peaceful Walkem household. The little black pug is 13 weeks old and is being fostered by Kim and the gang. He has a respiratory infection that he is taking medication for. He is reported to have luxating Patellas and we will be following up with that. However that has not stopped him from making the rounds and introducing himself to the Walkem pugs in typical puppy fashion. And they have responded in kind - although Gertie would like her bed back.

Kim will be providing a name for him once he settles down and she gets a feeling for his personality. He will be going for a vet checkup either Wednesday or Thursday.
