Tank's Staying - March 20 Tank has plowed his way into the hearts of his foster family. Given his health/behavioural issues, his age and his numerous past re-homings, his foster family felt that he had already found his last and final home. Tank is now a permanent member of the Axton-Nore household. He is already very attached to his pug sister, Maude and his human "brother", Tucker. |

Foster Update - March 6 Tank continues to do very well here. We have not seen any aggression issues with him (other than a spat or two the first week). He has been to the local dog park many times with no issues with any dog there--ranging from pugs to Irish Wolf hounds. It may be that his male/black dog issues are strictly about guarding the home or they may have been a stress or prednisone reaction. He is on a totally grain free raw diet and is doing extremely well on it. His prednisone is down to 3.75 mgs every other day with another reduction coming up at the end of March. I honestly believe that we will be able to get him off of it entirely. He is going to Canine Wellness for hydrotherapy to build up the muscles that have wasted due to inactivity and the steroids. He may never be a water lover, but he motors around the pool in his life jacket and it is great exercise for him. He is an active boy, given the chance and is sweet as can be. He and my son are particularly attached to each other. He has begun to learn to play and does the paw swat to my girl, Hazel, as play. He loves to have his belly rubbed and will roll at the drop of a hat for a rub. His skin is still black and partly hairless, but that is improving weekly. |

Foster Update - Feb. 14 Tank has settled in well with my crew. We are slowly introducing him to a raw diet and will continue to reduce his prednisone in the hopes that we can wean him off completely. His skin is still black and missing quite a bit of fur, but it is growing back.He is very sweet and snuggly, but has had a few squabbles with Hazel. I suspect they are trying to figure out who is second in command. He can be extremely aggressive in defending a bone or other high value item. This may be due to the prednisone or just is the way he is, but it isn't a big issue--I just gate him away from the others when he has bones or chewies. He is full of life and loves a good tummy rub. He's beginning to play a bit and loves to empty out my toy basket. |
Intrduction - Feb. 9 He is 8 yrs young, a big boy, gets around very well, but has a couple of medical issues which we are working on:--he is hypothyroid, which means he needs a thyroid pill twice a day.... morning and night... the meds cost about $50 for three months supply, and his bloodwork needs to be monitored to ensure proper levels, once per year. This will continue, for life. --he has some allergy issues which we are resolving, and has been on prednisone for years. We have been able, in just one month, to cut his prednisone almost in half (he gets his pred once daily, every other day), and are feeling a bit more confident that we can reduce it even more, once the diet kicks in, and his environment remains "green" in his forever home.... perhaps even eliminating it completely. Some of his hair loss is already resolving, and he feels and looks MUCH better!! Other than that, he is quite healthy!! s doing ok. He has displayed an intolerance for male dogs so will most likley go to a single dog family. He has no other behavioral issues that we can see at this time, and is VERY reliable in the housebreaking department. |
